I would go with beige or cream color

Stick with pastels and not to much contrast. Maybe a pale yellow or light blue and white always works in the kitchen. On the other hand you might want to make a statement and go for a major contrast. Remember that you have to match appliances as well so take into account the limited colors that are available in the appliance section.
You also might want to rethink your wall color. Its a tough match and repainting with a good faux base could solve many problems. Check out this book 1,200 Paint Effects by by Ray Bradshaw. It has hundreds of color swatches and should give you some great ideas. Good luck with that.

What is the color of your counter tops? Do you have other decorations on the walls? I think a moss or khaki green would be nice. Maybe a floral or print with some soft blues, too. No cream or yellow in too light of a tone. Those don't go.

if it is a deep mauve, i'd use rich contrasting colors. if it is a soft mauve, i'd use pastel blues, greens. but it depends on what type of counter tops, and accessories you have. but i think rich vibrant colors would open up a kitchen and make you feel like cooking and sitting around the table with your family/friends to enjoy dinner, coffee, etc.

Depends on your taste: White, Powder-Puff Pink, or even Grape would look good. Or something with a blend of those colors.

I would use a darker color to set it off and to make it eye catching like a dark maroon.
