I am not sure anyone's faith makes them tolerant, but it can cause them to respect that someone believes different than they do.
I believe everyone has the right to choose who they will worship, how they will worship, or not to worship at all.
Tolerance is accepting their faith, and I am not able to accept their faith as anything but wrong. I think that is the case for most people. They believe you have the right to your own belief, but then you have the right to be wrong.
I do not wish harm to anyone that believes different than I do, nor would I try to blow them up because I think they are infidels. They can be pagan as far as I am concerned and it does not bother me at all; but if they ask, I will be glad to tell them what I believe and why. I also refuse to argue. No one is going to change my belief, it is between me and God and His Son Jesus the Christ, and I don't expect to change anyone else's mind unless I can see that they are not sure what to believe.
As to mike4ty4, Luke 12:51-53 says;
51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

Because people don't really follow the teachings in the religions. They don't _really_ follow the _real_ religions themselves, they follow what their Church says, ie. their code of dogmas. But those dogmas are not what, say, Jesus really said, they are a codified interpretation that has been "enforced" with fear (you'll burn in HELL if you don't believe this One True Interpretation(TM) for ever and ever and ever) and engrained. And nobody ever questions it because they ARE afraid. Dogmatism in religion is bad.
The actual religions' message is that we are destined to have world peace. But we also have this thing called "free will", which means that we can choose how we get there. If we go and try to resist peace, we will fail in the end, but suffer quite a bit (which is what we are doing right now). A big cause of problems in this world is a lack of religion -- true religion, not the stuff your preacher or whatever would teach. As you have observed, the religions contain messages of peace and tolerance -- that's because that's what they are supposed to do. What we have to do is let go of our dogmas. The dogmas are not the same as the actual religion -- rather, they are bastardized versions created by Man, not by God. If anything sends us to hell it's those DOGMAS, and as you can see we have a lot of hell going on right now...

Religion has always been about war and bloodshed. When hasn't violence and religion been synonymous?
It's never been about peace, feeding the hungry, or clothing the naked. Not since Mother Teresa - the only person who got it. I guess that's because she was a woman.

If you were the devil, where would you send your troups: to the people who don't care, who are on your side already, or to the people who are trying to do right, to make a fool out of them, and God? (It works, doesn't it!)

Religion is the easiest of all ideas to hijack and manipulate people for your own agenda. Religion itself is not to be blamed - people are.
