Dogs are a lot of money and you probably aren't earning enough money to be able to afford a dog. (the can cost anywhere from $500-$1500 a year).
Your 7 year old cousin got a dog, but I'll be that dog is a family pet. Your aunt and uncle probably take care of it, like walk it, feed it, PAY for it, and pay attention to it.
If you really feel that you want a dog, talk to your parents and give them the reasons you feel you should get one. "Because they're cute and cuddly" is not a good enough reason. If your parents feel that a dog is a good fit for your family, then congratulations, you're on your way to more responsibility!

Find out why your parents really don't want you to have a dog. Maybe there is another reason than responsibility. Plus, no matter what you say, your parents WILL be the primary caregivers for the dog. That is just the way it works. A dog is a lot more work and responsibility than a fish!

don't push the issue, caring for a goldfish is much different than caring for a dog and I bet your 7 year old cousins parents do the brunt of the care giving for her dog. Having a dog isn't just about you being responsible with regards to walking and feeding. when you go on vacation you have to find responsible care for the dog and when he/she is sick your parents have to drive the dog to the vet and then pay the vet bill plus there may be heartworm/flea treatments and regular vaccinations. the yard needs to be properly maintained, dog needs a warm outdoor dog house, food, water bowl, leash, license, toys, grooming and even house training etc. Theres alot more to think about than your daily ability to care for an animal. I'm sure you are responsible but maybe your parents don't want or cannot afford the additional financial and legal responsibility that goes with a dog

I think you are wanting a dog just because your brother got a golden retriever.
But anyway, why don't you volunteer are a shelter, pet sit or walk peoples dogs, stick with it for a while. If you can handle all the responsibilities and can make a few bucks doing what you love maybe your parents will see that you can care for a pet properly.

i think you should ask them why. If it's money issues there is nothing you can do about that, but i do know for a fact that fish and puppys are very different pets. im sure you know this. it will be a lot of work to potty train and everything. im sure you'll do fine, but just take on mor chores or something. that's what got my parents into letting me get a puppy. sounds weird, but i showed them i could handle the extra work. good luck!

Dont begg, and begg. But at supper time, bring up the topic of dogs, without implying that you want one. After a few weeks, ask them if they like dogs, then start talking about getting one, slowly. I got a dog when I was 6.

you have to show them how responsible you are. do your chores without being asked to, take a bath, brush your teeth without being told, get good grades, just show them how responsible you are, also ask them if you can prove to them you are responsible if you can have a dog. they might have a good reason for not letting you have a dog.
