C'mon Art. You know as well as I that the bible should be taken as literally, and has the validity of any other comic book.

Because there actually verses in the Bible that are symbolic. The vast majority of the Bible is to be taken at face value, with maybe a little background work on how that would have applied then and how it applies now.
Sometimes people who aren't well versed in Biblical studies confuse the symbolic verses with the non-symbolic ones. And a lot of times Christians say that because they don't know the Bible well enough to answer you properly.

Scriptures are nothing more than words on a page without the Holy Ghost around to help you understand them. The Scriptures were also written by several different people. Sometimes the imagery is symbolic (especially when dealing with visions and dreams etc)...and when you read you have to take that into consideration.
I believe the Bible to be the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly. Hence the reason I am so grateful for the restoration of the Gospel, the Book of Mormon, Modern day Prophets and Apostles, but mostly, for the Gift of the Holy Ghost that I received at Baptism.

I guess I would have to know what the question is.
Example: If you ask if Jesus was a Lamb. I might give a scripture..
REVELATION 5:12
12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
But..Was He really a Lamb? No that's just an example of who He is. We do it every day with so many people.
In retrospect if you really want to understand the Bible it literally tells stories just like Jesus did. And to understand the stories is how we understand His Bible.(Word)

A true christian will ALWAYS stand behind the bible being the word of God and know that it's 100% true. No one can disprove ANYTHING in the bible. Everything it says will happened, HAS happened to date. The next prophetic event will be the rapture. Then the people (unsaved) who are left behind will feel God's wrath pouring out on them. So think of that and maybe you'll take a different view on things and what is to come.

They need to come up with some sort of excuse to defend their belief. So when it is convinient for them, they say the bible in that verse was to be taken literally ,when it no longer serves their porpouse, they come up with the excuse that the verse is just a methaphore. EXCUSES, that is what it all boils down to.

Sounds like your pretty concerned with something you think is a fairy tale.
Why dont you go turn on the TV instead?
If you truly want an answer, email me. I would be glad to help. And I will be glad to explain why you think there are contradictions in the bible when surely there are none.
If this question is to be smug... well have fun I suppose. I would not want to waste my time.
Christians give you Bible verses because that is where the Truth is. Even as sinners, repeating Gods word is Truth.
Dont get mad at the slave because you're mad at the owner.
Take it up with the owner, and you might be surprised at the outcome.

i think when people do this they do it to hide behind the bible because they are unsure of their knowledge of the religion and don't want to admit they are failures within the religion by not being able to answer a question about their religion
just my opinion
thanks
