I don't get mad, but I would ask them (politely) to leave. You see, as I'm the accompanist for the choir, there wouldn't be any music if they sat where I sit!

There are no reserved seating in church. I usually sit on the left side of church but I sit in any pew. I like the front better so i can see the altar and the priest better. But I'll sit anywhere because I'm there to here the word of God and to receive the Holy Eucharist. Not to get the best seat in the house.

Churches don't generally have assigned seating. Anyone is free to sit anywhere they would like. I can't believe this is a question, just like I couldn't believe when it really happened to me. Someone actually asked me to move, as I was sitting in "their" seat. My response was "let me just see if your name is on it" it wasn't and I didn't move. People who must sit in the same seat every time have issues with change. A suggestion, to anyone who has this problem, would be that you make it a point to sit in a different seat every time you attend church. It might give you panic attacks the first few times, but in the long run you may find yourself more open to change in other areas of your life as well.

If that were to happen to me, which has on a couple occasions , I just sit behind them or somewhere near.
I have no need to get mad at people who sit in my seat, if they are visiting and they did not know that was your place you would feel stupid if they were to leave the church and not come back cause you fought over a seat.
If they are a regular at your church , they should already know that was your place.

I just sit somewhere else if the side that I usually sit on has a lot of people then I will sit on the other side. If there is not a lot of people on the side I usually sit on but there is someone in my usual seat then I will either sit one row back or one row up it just depends on where other people are sitting.
It doesn't matter where you sit in church just so long as you are there to worship and praise the Lord!!!

Midge, you crack me up.
My family and I have a section of about 6 or 7 rows that we like to sit in. It's near the ambo and I like that spot. So we don't have one specific seat, just a general area that we usually stay in or around.
But if this is really a problem for you, just sit behind them and sing really loud (and really bad).
Or borrow a fidgety child, about 18 months old, and sit behind them. Let said child throw Cheerios at them, and maybe even throw a tantrum.
And while you're there, cough a lot; like you've got walking pneumonia. And then make sure to shake their hand for a long time at the Greeting of Peace.
Whatever method you choose, I guarantee they'll never sit there again.
Happy to be of service. :)

Uh? No, I just find another seat. Church seating now days is first come, you get the seat. I personally like to change around. Basically, I am trying to seat with short people in front of me so I don't have to look at the back of somebody's head during the service.

Happens all the time, I just find another seat. I never understood the brouhaha over seating. My favorite pew has always been near a inner side door, so that I could slip out without causing disruption should my kids in the nursery need me.
It is mere habit now, more than possessiveness.

Hey, that person has every right to sit there for goodness sakes!!! It just puts us in a position to sit somewhere else and maybe speak to someone we wouldn've spoken to if we had been in our 'comfy seat' and we have the chance to make a difference in their life!

I don't own a seat. I am happy that someone is there. And this happened because someone new is there. I will happily sit somewhere else!
