There are many churches in the United States, but there is more and more difficulty reaching the community. I have given some thought as to how this could be possible and the conclusion I have reached is that we must in some way be failing to show Christ in us. How can we change, or what can we do differently to allow others to see more of Christ and less of our less perfect selves?

Suggestions as to how as individuals and as church bodies for displaying a Christlike self to our neighborhoods.

*Note: I am not necessarily talking about witnessing, Christ went from one area to another healing and talking. People were drawn to Him, so how do we show Him to them.

I believe our actions are most important. Maybe in the fall, just help people rake leaves. Sometimes our youth group will take an evening, and knock on doors, and ask people if they need anything done, like take out the trash...and no charge. A group of men (certified auto mechanics, and others) are doing a single mom's day. We inspect their car, change the oil and filter, top off fluids, make minor repairs (light bulbs), wash the car and vacuum it out. They get a free tank of gas. And later repairs are made, and usually at no cost. This is all free...no strings. Just the love of Jesus is shown.

Our very life living should reflect the Christ in us. Our light should so shine that others see our good works and glorify God. We must be different from the "world" and the difference should be apparent. In these times we see an attack on true Christianity. We are painted as being intolerant, ignorant, hypocrites or weak. Unfortunately some who profess to be Christians live down to these stereotypes. However there is hope, as long as we stay true to God and His word we will bear witness to Him. Unfortunately these are the days when men will be turned away from the truth and onto fables. They will prefer any plausible and implausible thing as long as it's not the one who died for them. In short by being made into the image of Christ and not this world, and by prayer and following the leading of His Holy Spirit, we will make an impact whether we actually see it or not.

There's a quote from St. Francis of Assisi which says, "Always preach the Gospel, and sometimes use words." Are approach today is stagnant because most Christians are afraid of offending someone. The Holy Spirit is the One who draws individuals to God not us. If we live what we preach and teach it's a greater witness then any words can say. People will be drawn to that. In which way we can tell them the source of our living the way we do and a seed is planted. God will give the increase.

I read recently this thought: that it is easy to fight for the principles that you believe in, but difficult to live up to them. Christianity, that is, following Christ, has changed from just following Christ's teachings and life, into being just one way of many to reach what ever it is you want; just another lifestyle with a lot of private and public clubs. If a true follower of Christ wants to attract others to the Way, then they truly need to understand what it is that Christ taught and how he lived on earth, and live that way joyfully and in peace and True love. Arguing and infighting, snide remarks made to those "on the outside", lists of rules that are not a part of Christ's teaching - these may drive others away. MHO

I see so many people on here and in real life being so judgmental. I think it would help a great deal if Christians strove to be more Christ-like. I don't think He would run around judging and condemning people. I think He would be reaching out to help the disenfranchised and lost. He would be a lot more understanding and accepting. I feel Christians need to do this.

Try doing a poll or survey asking people what it is about religion today that bothers them/turns them away. Then maybe you'll have some basis for what it is that's causing you to have difficulty in reaching the community.

besides the reality that i've got faith those subject concerns undermine someone's faith, they're the area of secular politics and not a non secular decision to enforce. those at the instant are not issues we as Christians are to decide nor are we to enforce. we are able to vocalize our difficulty yet no longer on the rate of others ideals. we've a vote while those issues are an argument to be voted on, purely as all of us else. international starvation could be addressed as quickly as we are wealthy yet i don't understand we are able to remedy it via skill of persevering with to throw funds at it. ecosystem is a difficulty for each man or woman, non secular or no longer. changing what we've been doing would be costly yet mandatory. attempting to easily right what we've accomplished could be a waste, earth can heal, we could desire to alter and enable that ensue. Throwing funds at fixing somewhat than changing could be a waste.

I am glad to see references to both evangelism and mercy noted here. People are more receptive to hearing the Gospel when their basic needs are being met. Mercy efforts on various levels are part of showing God's love. Whatever kindness you can extend that is nearest to you is what you should do.

Prayer is a given. One vital ingredient missing in the body today is fasting.
Set one day a week aside to fast and watch dramatic change start to take place in your life. Jesus did not say "if" you fast but "when" you fast. I challenge any who read this - if you are not fasting then give it a try. The benifits far outway the sacrifice.
