The year 2012 is when the mayan calender ends. At such time the calender would start over. Not sure if that indicates an end of the world.

first of all i will start off by saying that the mayan calendar looks like this 0.0.0.0.0 - each number representing such things as day month and year...but they go way beyond day month and a year. the end of the world thing in 2012 is because at that time it is the end of the 13th baktun, which would be represented like this 13.0.0.0.0 and we are worried because after that date the 13 goes back to a 0, thus the end. but what the people dont mention when they try to scare you is that it simply means that instead of lets say a 2 in front of the 13 it will be a 3 (but who actually knows what number is in front of that soon to be 13). so its like this 0.13.0.0.0.0 and then like this 1.0.0.0.0.0 . what happens nobody knows, my opinion is that the world will end, but not be gone... my theory is that it simply is a cycle. and at this period of time, the world will end and a new one reborn, a better one... i also believe that this is the time that the revelation from the holy bible predicts.
i mean it is a calendar, but instead of only following the earths rotation (day), position along our orbit (months) and time it takes to go around the sun (year) the mayans also followed the entire solar system, and what happens on that particular day (or time period) is that our solar system completes a circle (gets back to where it started) in the universe. but it will keep moving, as will we, only possibly with diferent consciousness, a more open view, a better world, lets just say a heavenly place, where we live with god (and/or christ) and the demon is defeated and sent away, until, of course, we reach a certain position in the universe again.
i am sorry, i was going somewhere with this and when i started i had planned to say alot more then i have but now i cant, so i will just hope that this is good enough for you.

No, the year 2012 will not be the apocalypse.
"Apocalypse" in Greek means disclosure. It is a term applied to the disclosure of something to certain, privileged persons that is hidden from the masses. John’s original title (of Revelation in the Bible) is modernly referred to as the Apocalypse of John.
Since Biblical scholars had no clue what was meant in his metaphorical text, they agreed to name it in the English Bible: the Revelation of St. John the Divine, or the Book of Revelation of Jesus Christ, the Messiah.
However, the “disclosure” of what Revelation means has now been unfolded, and is presented throughout the pages of a new book. I purchased it and read it. It is amazing.
I now have no more fear for 2012, 2050, or any other year. The truth has set me free.

The year after 2011 and before 2013. It will no more be the apocalypse than 2000, which was the big date before that one.

I predict:
A baby boom about 9 months after New Year's Eve 2011.
A run on sports cars, fine wine, scotch, etc. in 2011.
People running around in circles, hands in the air, screaming that the world is going to end. And then trying to slink away in shame when nothing happens in 2012.
I plan to sit back, relax and have a good laugh at this sequel to 1999. At least we had Y2K back then.

I think this has been covered since 1999 - every year the world comes to an end!
can we just quit that already , I am getting bored with this!
one year its a Chinese ,the next its a Roman and the next year it the Incas! so who is next in line and lets get it over with!

My take on it is perhaps, on January 1, 2013, the people who believed it was going to happen will shut up and go away. I won't hold my breath. There's another crackpot prediction just over the horizon, I'm sure.

It's the year after 2011 and before 2013.
I really should read all the answers before I post sometimes.

2012 is probably going to be just like everyother year. Something horrible will probably happen ( as it is with every year) but it won't be the end of the world.
