I'm an actress looking for an agent, and it's so stressful, cause i don't know where to start! Is John Robert Powers just a school? Or is it an agency that will place you with an agent that will get you work? Can anybody recommend how to look for a good agency to try and sign with?

JRP is a SCAM. Dont trust them. They'll just take your money away and you'll never progress. My friend's friend went there and she had to pay $600-$800 for headshots, then hadto pay for a plane ride to NY to get an agent which told them they had to pay $4000 up front, which is a complete lie you're not supposed to pay anything until you book commercials and such and they only have to take 10% or something around that from your paycheck. But yeah you have to enroll into acting classes and from there you could ask your teachers and they may recommend agencies.
Also remember your heart has to be in this. And if it is then thats good and dont let anyone on here or your friends or anyone put you down. if this is what you want go through with it.

Well i am actually attending the school at the moment and a lot of people feel as though John Robert Powers is a scam. It could be where some people are located why there being scammed but my experience so far has been good. They didnt promise me fame, in fact they made sure to emphasize that they cant guarentee fame but give us a chance towards our goals. And regardless of which school you go to that is its own company you have to pay. John robert powers offers 20 weeks for about 1950 and a extra 120 for books. Plus no matter which place you go to make sure that they have documentation of their alumnis and john robert powers alumnis are impressive in how far theyve gotten. Just look into the school at st. louis i wouldnt be able to tell you if there phonys over there but i can guarentee you that over here in nj there definatly good people. So check out the john robert powers in your area and do a little bit of research. Oh Oh and i forgot to say that they did NOT except everyone at my auditions .. about 50 came to the auditions, 7 were called back and i think only 5 of us made it so they dont just except everybody like everyone is saying.

You must live in NYC or L.A., if you realistically want a good agency. Otherwise you will only find scams. Sorry.

Yes, John Robert Powers is a SCAM. They are NOT a Talent Agency, they prey on people that do not know anything about the acting or modeling industy. It's a school to allegedly "train models."

I go to JRP. It is a school NOT an agency. I've gone to a lot of auditions. I just got an agent and I've been in a magazine. And a Print ad. I'm moving out to L.A because it's way easier to get to all the auditions that my agent sends me. People think it's a scam because they don't have the talent.

The Powers agency is one of the oldest and most established and from what I've heard, they know thier business.they'll hnadle your appointments(which you better keep!)and the like. They'll also steer you to pro photographer to get you right portfolio, but,if you have any head shots or anything,do take them along with you
