I love Uniden phones ( I have had 3 )...ummm silly thought but why don't you turn off the answering machine when you are home? Or at least change the amount of rings before it picks up.I've never had this problem.
Hope this helps.

You can adjust how many rings you hear before it goes to your voice mail, if you are using your answering machine on your Uniden. If you are using voice mail through your phone company, then you need to call them and they can change the number of rings before it goes to your voice mail.

well, it sounds like my problem, but you haven't given enough info for a diagnosis.
My "land line" is VOIP and I have it set ring to my cell phone also. If my cell phone is off it will ring once at home and go straight to VM.

if you have a similar setup, this could be the reason.
