I'm sorry, it doesn't go away. It's somewhat suppressed.
You could try peeling the onion under running, cold water.
You could try putting a slice of bread in your mouth so some of it sticks out like a shield. Some of the onion's vapors may be blocked or absorbed by that slice of bread.
You might want to peel it outside in a more open environment.
Tough it out - Bite the bullet and peel it like you always did.

it doesn't go away, but it's much less volatile (it doesn't evaporate nearly as fast) so you don't get the fumes in your eyes. You don't have to freeze the onion, just get it cold. Try 30 minutes, and adjust it from there.
You can also cut or peel an union under running water in the sink, and get the same effect.

what makes your eyes tear is sulfuric acid....when you freeze the onion, the sulfur compounds that combine to make you cry are much slower in difusing out of the onion. If you freeze the onion for 5 min and are fast, this should be sufficient time to cut it up before it starts releasing at a rate to make you tear
