When I first heard about the many stats suggesting such a large percentage think this, I figured the polls must be out of whack. But having asked a prior question about this and seeing just how many people are actually convinced of this, I have to wonder what it is that makes so many Christians think this.

Because after 2,000 years, it's starting to look a little silly...

Everyone knows that in the Bible, Jesus said (more than once, in more than one way, and in more than one gospel) that he was coming back before his generation passed.

But he didn't.... and we're still waiting for the fireworks. Soon it will be 4,000 and I imagine there will at least still be a small cult following of Jesus, living on the Moon, waiting for his return.

Because Bible prophesies are being fulfilled and there's as much wickedness now as in Noah's day. They didn't beleive it him about the impending judgment either. We still have rainbows for proof but this time the end of the earth will be different. Christians aren't afraid to die because they have eternal life and do not experience the second death.
Anytime Christians are close to God and read the Word, they feel that Jesus is coming very soon. Jesus said no man knoweth the day or the hour save the Father but He gave us signs to watch for and they are appearing everywhere. The world wide church, government and financial system are already being put into place until it won't be long before the beast power will control the entire world economy and no man can buy or sell without the mark of the beast. Foolish virgins will not be prepared and wicked servants will say "My Lord delayeth His coming" but the wise virgins and the faithful servant realize they must be expecting and prepared for Christ's return every day. Even the world has noticed things aren't quite right with the earthquakes in divers places, famines, pestilences, and other such like which are on the increase. We must remember that thousands of years of prophesy were fulfilled in one week's time when Jesus was born and many more fulfilled in His short life-span of 33 years. Great are the mysteries of Godliness so the world will mock what they do not comprehend but even sinners know that something is about to happen. The war in Iraq is part of it and how Israel's position fits into prophesies while they miraculously survive in spite of tremendous opposition from the world in general. We are watching for the seven year treaty to be signed and other things that at one time didn't seem possible but now circumstances are shaping up so fast in so many ways that we can now see the possibilities of how these things can actually come into being and be fulfilled in our lifetime. I hope I'm ready when Jesus comes.

It's been going on since the promise was made unfortunately when the promise was made everyone forgets Jesus said that nobody not even He would know that time. I consider myself a Christian and get really tired of people like Darby back in 1833 preaching Dispensationalism and the Rapture when there is absolutely no proof in the Bible of this theory. Early Christians thought Nero was the "anti-Christ". You have to remember, the Earth at the time was not populated like it is now. In fact at the time of Jesus, nobody actually had a concept of what the world as we know it now actually was! The world was "localized" to the mid-east, Africa, and Asia out to perhaps China and north thru Eurasia. Didn't include North and South America at all because those were unknown at the time! Remember that, it's important. Early interpretations were not including that unknown. As for the "Polls", stupid is as stupid does. Problem is, there is going to be a time when those "Who have ears to hear" as predicted in Revelations will actually happen, but nobody will listen because others who came before were wrong. My prediction? Look to the Islamic nation for one who proclaims himself to be the fulfillment of the predictions of the Koran. He is the Anti-Christ. He will unite all of Islam and start a war against anyone who is not a Muslem. The Bible says the anti-Christ would have a prophet. I'll stop there because the rest of the story is up to you. By the way, Jesus also spoke in terms of a "Generation of Vipers". Are we without evil people (vipers) today? How long is that generation? I rest my case.

well it has been over 2000 years since Christ last walked the earth and was sentenced to death by Crucifixion and resurrected. The Bible say, " Jesus will return to us at the end of time" In accordance to the Bible the end will bring forth many natural disasters before Jesus returns. We are starting to wittiness these natural disasters as I type. Some theologians say they can pin point the time frame of this event. The truth is this: No-one knows when this is to take place. When the Lord feels it is time , than he will come again. Until then , why not live your life in a spiritual way and do unto others as you would like done on to you. Make a good difference on this planet and perhaps on judgment day I can shake your hand if I make it to heaven:)
God Bless you and grant you peace and understanding and bring you peace.

"Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place" (Matthew 24:34).

From the very beginning the idea that Jesus would come back during the current generation has been a very strong theme in Christianity. And always in times of crisis this feeling gets stronger. During the English Civil War apocalyptic proclamations were everywhere. It's just part of Christianity, though of course it is a somewhat embarrassing part to look back on 1900+ years of "any day now!"

Many of the prophecies have already come to pass. We actually don't know the exact time, but Jesus tells us to wait, watch, and listen, to be aware, to be spiritually awake. We know what to look for, so we will recognize it when it comes, it is a great time to be alive. Jesus didn't leave us hanging about it, He told us about it in the Scriptures, that the world would come to an end, and certain things would happen first. He also told us to not be afraid, but to trust in Him and in the Father.
I know what you mean, I remember searching years ago scratching my head thinking what the.......and now here I am scratching my head saying yeah! ok! Let's get this show on the road!

the reason why christians think Jesus will return during their lifetime is because they read and study the true word of God, which is the Bible. the Bible talks about everything, from the creation of the world, to the prophesies about what will happen in the last days. mostly, in Revelation is where it talks mainly about the return of the messiah, who is Jesus Christ and what will happen in that time.

Prophecy being fulfilled before our very eyes. The most major to this date being the return of Israel as a Nation after 2000 years back in 1948 (some would say 1967). Another is on its way, battle of Gog/Magog which is being set up as we speak, it will be significant. The rapture will also be significant, but there will be no leading up to it, it will just happen.

The signs that the Bible gave us concerning Christs return seem to be taking place right now. So many of them are happening at the moment and I really do think I could see it! We are told to be ready and to spread the news. The signs are many.
