1. You need at least two reports of harassment to get a restraining order, which is what she should be trying to get. She should save every text message which is evidence and the police when taking a report should start an investigation. You have to stay on them to show them how serious you feel about this problem. Once they start the investigation they should be able to get phone records and other documents to link it back to the person doing it.
2. Documentation is the key to a criminal investigation. Don't do anything that will damage your credibility. Good luck

First she needs to contact the police. If she is a witness for the prosicution in the rape case the prosecutor needs to know about these developments immediately. It is called tampering with a witness. It carries stiffer penalties most likely jail time then just a harrassment complaint.
When you file a harrassment complaint a court will determine a hearing date. At this time all evidence will be presented as to the harrassment. Please tell your friend to no delete any of the messages. This is her proof.
I would also tell her to file an emergency protection order against these people. The court case will be heard sooner than the harrassment case. With an order of protection if the people try to contact her or come by her they then can be arrested. Good luck to your friend and her little girl.

They need to get a restraining order against anyone in the family who has been contacting them and be sure and let the detective in charge of the rape case know what is going on.

there is often an investigation,
if there is enough evidence charges can be laid against the rapist.
if the rapist is working he may be forced to compensate
Scott has the right idea
but I thought I would say mine
the more evidence the better the case.
only a restraining order will ensure your friend gets left alone.

Depends on your jurisdiction. Intimidating a witness is pretty serious stuff. Contact the officer/detective handling the case right away.
Save the text messages and make a list of witnesses also.

in texas, harassment is when a person uses an electronic means {{phone, computer, etc.}} to annoy, anger, embarass, or antagonize another person. your friend should be able to show threatening emails and get a case, though thats more "retaliation" than harassement {{by nature of ur friends having a criminal complaint against the rapist.}}
