Overhead in a dental office runs about 60-70% for most offices. The average, single practitioner, office bills around $500,00 in a 4 to 4.5 day week after it's established. The first years you will be lucky to make $70,000 which is about what salaried dentists just out of school clear.

That is a highly variable figure. It is dependent upon many many factors. Safe to say, the possibility exists for you to make a very decent living as a dentist. If you bill say a million dollars a year, which is not that difficult, you can take home $200,000-300,000 a year after all your office expenses.
Money really should not be the factor for pursuing a career in the dental field. The work can be extremely challenging and the patients don't often appreciate what it is that we do for them. Most of the rewards you receive are from within, for knowing you have done a good job and helping people out.
Good luck to you in your future endeavors.

I am not sure but I think I heard that dentists have an extremely high suicide rate.
