first, i must say it, take it to a vet if all else fails
do you bathe it regularly? this may be odd, but bathing it helps mosturize its skin, you can even just have it in the bathroom with you when you shower, the steam really helps them
second, it may be depression, or another mental illness. or it could possibly be she just doesnt want feathers there, my friend has a parrot, and it plucks all of its neck feathers out and they had it tested for depression and so forth, but it just seems to dislike feathers there
third, only ask the pet store what to do if they have a "bird" person, aka someone who knows the birds really well.
and fourth, call the vet, and ask for solutions, you dont always have to take it in.

Numerous Animals do this for numerous reseasons, Cats, dogs are most common- but only because Dogs and cats are the most common pets. it could be a skin iritation (birds have allergies too, and just like humans, can develop them over time) or dry skin. It could be an Insect or Parasite on, in, or under the skin (even Birds get ticks and fleas) or it could be a mental issue- maybe your bird is stressed out (over the weather, or the happenings at your house- and yes , even if its an inside bird it can be affeced by weather)

Hi have you noticed the feathers.. are they broken off at the shaft or are they clean and pointed.. if broken off she is plucking and if clean she is moulting.. Have you changed her diet.. cage placement or spending less time with her ?? What species is she.. Cockatoo's a prone to feather plucking and they pluck out of boredom stress nervousness anxiety... Is she mutilating herself at all ( picking at her own skin till she bleeds ) I would suggest that you take her to an AVIAN vet right away to rule out and disease.. As for the dry flakey skin are you giving her a balanced diet of fruit veggies pasta rice beans and leafy greens?? Flaky skin is a nutrient disorder she is missing something in her diet but also when they moult their skin gets sensitive and new feathers coming in will irritate them and they scratch alot and their skin is very dry and flaky at that time.. To help with the skin give showers if she will take one if not gently mist her with warm water with a little bit of pure aloe vera gel in the bottle this will help with the skin ... But most definately rule out sickness with a vet visit.. Good luck

Sounds like a nervous disorder call feather plucking. Self mutilation in a way. Can be difficult to fix. Here's some info on it. Hope it helps. Make sure she has toys that can satisfy this urge. It may help. But of course, the vet first. They can diagnose the problem.

Is she building a nest with the feathers? You might want to inquire at the pet store, maybe they'd have some idea whats going on and check out a book on your bird.

Don't buy any vitamins until you see a vet. It could be a behavioral problem or there could be something else wrong. Either way vitamins are not the answer. Please see a vet
