Both, and mostly arrogant Americans because I'm not a senior in High School and know most all of the answers to that show, and when I know most of the answers I would be lying if I said some question stump me because sometimes the answer does escape my mind, its not only the lack of education most Americans receive because there is a rising drop out rate among American teens and it was more highly so among the generation of contestants on that show, thus adding to the uneducated America. How can children obtain knowledge not only from school but mostly definitely from their parents if more and more parents and drop outs and uneducated.

Most people have no need to remember the trivia that is asked on that show. The fact that most americans can not answer those questions only shows that they have forgotten those facts. That doesn't mean that the education system has failed. (I don't mean to imply that there are no problems with the education system, just that this show is not proof of those problems)

There's probably a bit we all learned in elementary school which we've never quite remembered as well as we should have, though I'm pretty sure that the contestants' "agonizing" decisions are staged. So I suppose, a little bit of both.

The show's mostly like Jeopardy! to me though... I find myself screaming out the answers at the contestant and calling them stupid, most of the time.

Hell, maybe I should go on there.

Pathetic ratings grab. It's a chain in the US. They use shows like that to get people's attention. Everyone thinks about themsevles, including me, or else we'd all be down in Africa helping people. Don't get started on Opera...She is a billionaire....it's great that she helps people, but I think she does it for publicity. That is why she hasn't come out about her secret.

A pathetic ratings grab. My kid is about to go in 7th grade and I know in 'real life', you don't use half the stuff you 'learn' in fifth grade.

I've watched it with my fifth grade and she gets a kick out of knowing stuff I've long forgotten.
