This is a great trip and I have done it many times. To give a list of hotels and restaurants would be impossible for me. I have always liked to wing it and have usually had great luck at finding little hideaways. I think that the best thing for you to do would be to check with triple A, the auto club. Their membership fees are very inexpensive and their services are top notch. They will help you with trip planning, maps, reservations and they know all the sights that you are going to want to see aswell. Also haveing the AAA card entitles you to discounts just about everywhere. With the family going along you don't want to be stuck somewhere with the hotels in town sold out. So... Go with the professionals and you will have a great trip and peace of mind.

Here's an idea, State Parks, since its already a road trip go camping. the sites r relatively inexpensive. Or try the small local towns for a Mom&Pop motel. they generally descent and clean. Hope this helps you. And by the way can i come? Sounds great, have fun!!!!
