Jeff Gordon as so many have already stated is the points leader. But in the scoring system today, it really doesn't matter who has the most, just who makes the top 12. And Gordon has that locked up although I am not sure that it is locked up mathematically, but realistically.
The real race really doesn't even begin until the 27 race. Right now Gordon could have a 500 point lead but no of that matters after race #26. The only thing that Gordon and Johnson need to focus on is 1st place each race and getting that extra ten points for the chase.

Jeff Gordon is still the points leader. After last weeks race in Loudon he currently has 2,613 points, 156 points more than Denny Hamlin. Here is the current top 5.

It doesn't matter, I doubt he'll be the leader at the end at Homestead, and thats when the point leader will actually count.
