Dodge Neon. They certainly are not safe cars. If you get in an accident, you can't really rely on the car. I'd pick something else. A civic maybe, if you're looking for something small.

Both cars are equally bad. The neon is not a good car, it even has a "timing belt" so you had better check and see if it was replaced, otherwise, it may snap at anytime and pretty much screw the whole engine--you'll need a brand new engine! The ford? I'm very surprised that focus even made it to 160,000 miles, really. My friend sold his 2001 dodge Neon about 6 months ago with only 75,000 miles for only $2,200. You would be better off getting a '93 honda accord for $2,500, ONE THAT HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF, and I can assure you it will last WAY longer than the dodge/Ford, get better gas mileage, and it's even a faster car than both!

Get a Ford Focus. They are a better quality vehicles compared to Dodge Neon. Neons had tons of problems especially after 100,000 miles. Here is what I recommend you do - take a car to the local mechanic and for about $40 they will do a thorough inspection on the car and will tell you what kind of repairs it needs. Mechanic will able to assess if the engine or transmission will need to be replaced, these are major expenses and believe me, you don't want that. When you know what kind of repairs or maintenance the car will need in the near future, you will be able to negotiate the price in your favor. Also, see if the owner of the car has all the records kept for oil changes and other repairs. This is very important, that will tell you the history on the car. Lastly, if you are willing to spend $3799 for a Neon, I would highly recommend you find a Ford Focus with less mileage. 160,000 miles to me looks too much.

Sweety Ford does not make Neons. The Neon is manufactured by Dodge.
They are pretty good cars.

First of all, they are made by Dodge not Ford (two different companies). Not being smart, just informative.
I have heard of several people who have had these cars.
My daughter had one. It acted up allot. I can't remember what the actual problem was, but it had a recall on a specific part. She could not afford to get it fixed. Yes, I offered to help, but she said no. Anyway, this part caused other things to go wrong. However, when most cars would have already broke down, hers kept going. She put around 100,000 additional miles on after the part went out. She traded it before it broke down. LUCKY!
My son-in-law had one that he could not keep running for anything. It was junk.
They both got around 35-45 miles to a gallon of gas.
I am sure some people have had good results, but I have not heard of any yet. Most have had bad luck with repairs and extra maintenance being needed.
Good Luck.

Assuming you mean a Dodge Neon, i would say no. Though i drive a Dodge, neons are crappy made cars and extremly easy to total. Especially if your a younger driver, your risk of smashing it to pieces are better. I would go with a Chevy Malibu or something like that. Dont get a Neon and whatever you do DON'T GET A HONDA!!!

It's a Dodge Neon. There's nothing really special about them. My friend drove a Neon as well (1998 model I think but about $800 when she bought it) and it was pretty good for about 2 years (even though it was a piece of junk). She gave it up to a pound and bought a BMW.

Ford doesn't make the Neon. That's a Dodge product.
They're entry-level cars. They'll last a few years.
