I'm having a party Sunday and I plan on making side dishes and a salad and some dessert too but I plan to grill some chicken but I have no clue as to how much I need to buy. Is it a pound of chicken per person or half a pound per person? I can't remember!

I usually go with half a pound per person if you are doing boneless breasts or cutlets.. That's 8 ounces, a big portion. If doing whole chicken or quarter chickens, plan on 1/4 -1/2 chicken per person. It's not the only thing they are eating, after all.

For whole or cut-up chicken, you would figure on 12 to 16 ounces per person...much of the weight is bones, which won't be eaten.

But in your case, the cutlets are (presumably) boneless, so the full weight will be consumed. Traditionally, it would be a 6-ounce portion per person; in your case, I'd suggest going with 8 ounces per person. Worst case scenario: you have leftover chicken.

So, for 13 people, figure on a total of about six and a half pounds of raw chicken.

Usually they say a 1/4 pound for each person. But we find that we all eat more then that. So I would buy a little extra for your bigger eaters. Good Luck and Have Fun

Just get various chicken parts like thighs, legs and breasts. If you buy the chicken without the bones than it is about 1/2 pound per person.

In my catering experiences, it is usually 1/4 to 1/2 pound per person, depending on appetites (small children). Factor in the number of side dishes (usually three), bread, and dessert.
Hope this helps.

Average recommendation is 2 pieces per person. Depending on the size there will be 3-4 per lb

If you're not having any other protein do 1 breast/person and 2-3 extra for big eaters/leftovers. At 8-10oz/breast that's about 8+lbs. If you're having other protein get 5lbs.

if south of the mason dixon line about 30 lbs each should suffice. Anywhere else: about 2 pieces per person with a few left over!

The rule is generally, 1lb. per person, unless you have a family that really likes to eat. I always do 1 1/2 lbs. per person. Worse comes to worse, you have left overs. Better to have more than not enough.
