extra software is not necessary, internet explorer allows you to use proxy servers which will 'hide' your ip address.

normally you can specify a proxy server to use by going to 'tools' > 'internet options' then choose the 'connections' tab.

in this window, click the 'lan settings' button and tick the 'use a proxy server...' box, enter the ip address of the proxy server in the 'address' box with the port in the 'port' box.

'ok' all the way out, and you'll be surfing via a proxy.

if you need help with finding proxy servers, here's a huge list:

Absolutely. Try Tor, which uses Onion routers or JAP which uses a proxy server. Tor (http://tor.eff.org/). JAP (http://www.billstclair.com/blog/jap_anonymous_web_proxy.html). Both are compatible with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera web browser. If you are using Firefox, you can also use the SwitchProxy extension and use one of any of a number of free proxy server lists.
