How do I compress webcam videofiles so I can send them via e-mail?

I recently started to use my webcam to capture some footage for promotional purposes.now I wanna send it via e-mail,but no matter what service I use the files are always to big.How can I make them smaller without editing out the content? Any particular free programs out there I can use?

xp n vista come with windows movie maker. it lets u squeeze the file size and also split the movie as much as u want.
