You cannot break a curse. You cannot undo any magick that has been done. It must run its own course in the universe until it is complete.
That is why magick should be done sparingly and with a very careful choice of words. The Law of Threefold is a caution, not just for people who perform black magick. All magick that is done, even with the intent of doing no harm, can result in negative effects.
I do not believe a curse would run the course of 20 years. Perhaps this person just has bad Karma or perhaps even some mental issues. Why are you reluctant to name the effects of this "curse"?

Alright, first I'll tell you a few facts about curses.
1. All of the power of a curse is expended in its creation.
2. The person putting the curse always makes it known to the victim because.......
3. The energy that the victim puts into worrying about the curse is what feeds it and keeps it going for as long as the energy is sent to it.
4. The only person who can remove a curse is the person the curse has been put upon.
And he/she can remove it very simply by............
not thinking about it, not talking about it, not worrying about it. If it makes your friend feel better, he/she can either smudge him/herself, clean his/her chakras or find someone who can perform a GBRP ritual, but the most important thing is to cut off the energy supply. Your friend has been cursing him/herself for the past 20 years. I do NOT recommend retaliatory magick because then that shifts the karmic responsibility on to your friend instead of the curse's originator.

Curses are real enough and invariably demonic. You will probably need help to deal with this. It takes discernment to see the origin of any curse and how to deal with it. Certainly confession and repentance of sin will come into this. You should find an organization with a sound deliverance ministry - go somewhere outside your immediate locality.

Yes, there is help. First, let us understand that the nature of a curse is of demonic origin and that only God can undo it. What is required is for the cursed person to ask God for forgiveness of his sins, to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour, and then to simply say: I reject this curse and rebuke the devil out of my life in the name of Jesus. Keep in mind that curses do have a way to come back, but a Christian can always keep them at bay through his continuous relationship with God.
This is the only way.

The only way to break a curse is to stop believing in it. That is all counter spells do is help a person believe the curse has been broken. The only one that can do this , is the person who believes.

They are right, curses only works for those who believe in curses, and since it entered you as you say, you can reject it back, ask one powerful being and work with HIM and the curse will be gone. Here is what you must do.
Ask the MOST POWERFUL being THE CREATOR OF ALL THINGS THE FATHER OF ALL THINGS, beg for HIS help to take the curse away from you, tell HIM how it all came to be,
Promise HIM that you will keep your self busy with good things and good memories and good intentions.
believe that HE has started taking it away while you are doing your part
do frequent interaction with THE CREATOR regarding the curse, tell HIM how your partnership is going on and thank HIM always.

Look, if the person has not resolved the curse in 20 years, it is not a curse.
There are enough naturalists, healers, medicine men/woman, and witches this could have been taken care of already.

Easy! Don't believe it. If it helps, make up a ceremony that makes you feel spiritually cleansed and fully blessed. Think of it like that steven king novel,'it' where the monster could only get them if they believed. I think it could work. Otherwise, I don't have much experience with this so I'll pass it on to someone else.
