I think it is

I don't think it's rude. I mean, really, if you're doing the story teller a favor by listening to their mind numbingly boring story about how they spent their weekend shaving their grandfather's chapped ***......and then applying four different types of presciption, lotion based medications in order to prevent the inflammations from getting any more irritated than they have already become......then to drive over forty miles back into town from the middle of nowhere, only to find that the pharmacy is out of sepositories. Now what?! Luckily it's summer time, so the grocery store is fully stocked with fruit flavored popsicles, not that it matters. These won't be used for the taste. Well, i guess it did the job. Anyway,.... i don't think it's rude to tell someone to speed their story up if they just keep dragging on and on and on with every detail... no matter how repulsive it may be.

yes it is.
but if the person you re talking about is a close Friend and their delivery of a story is always a point of problem for you.
like for example; I know someone who tells part of the story and then tells you what was going through her head at the time and how she was feeling and then starts at the beginning again and gets side tracked by how she feels about the person shes talking about and their past history and why she thinks they did what they did and how this relates to her inability to draw with a pencil or eat strawberries and on and on and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!OMG I want to choke her please make it stop!
As a Friend and because I do love her I had to tell her how crazy she made me with her 2 hour long stories that I could have delivered in 5 minutes or less.she,s gotten a lot better about it.
telling a person like that nicely but firmly at a time other than when they are talking is better than saying somthing like "Come on skip to the chase!" or "get to the point!" in the middle of their story.
that would be rude.

I believe it depends upon ones age. I don't believe in being rude; however I am 53 years old. When some people start a story and it goes on and on and on, I began to wonder if perhaps hearing that boring drawn-out story will be my last moment on earth. I was much more patient with people's long stories when I was younger.

A WORD OF WARNING: when you interrupt some people, they start the story over at the beginning ! So beware you don't want to have to fake a heart attack to get away.

If the story sucks ***...no, if the story is about how wonderful I am, then yes, it's rude to speed up the story.

i do that sometimes coz i know many people who talk so slow and say every detail!! when all i want to hear is the ending of the story!! it so irritates me!
I think it is rude to do it to people u dont know much but if its someone ur used to or close to i think its ok?

according to my girlfriend it is. According to me it isn't. You are expected in normal discourse to 'come to the point' and if you don't in a normal amount of time you should at least talk faster to get through the non-essential parts of the story that aren't clearly related to the main point.

It won't make them happy. If they are your close family it's fine to tell them to speed up. For someone you seldom talk to anyway, just grit your teeth.
