Call the "pound", make sure you get the name of the person you are talking to, mark down the time and date. Report this abuse of this poor pregnant stay. Tell them what the children next door are doing to this dog. If they don't give any response in 24 hrs, call again, writing down all the same infor as before. If they again do nothing, call the Birmingham Animal Control, and tell them you reported it twice already and got no response, and if the dog is still there. Maybe if they call your local dog pound something will get done. At any rate, maybe you could find someone with a larger vehicle or a truck and get this dog transported to the Birmingham facility so she and her puppies would be taken care of. The abuse she is receiving from those monster kids will surely kill both her and her babies! And, I agree, it would do you no good to go to the mother, because those kids are too young to be left alone, but yet she does it. Good luck; I'm so glad there are some folks out there with tender heart left. Oh, by the way, are you going to have your dog neutered after it weans the puppies? I hope so, as that's what responsible pet owners do.

Accidents happen when you have a male and a female that are not fixed. I only have to look across the room at a little Chihuahua I'm fostering to see that. She has one living pup. One barely alive pup and 3 dead ones. She was touch and go for several days after her c-section. Had her owner got her spayed before she bred or even as soon as she bred this would not have happened.
Call your vet first thing in the morning and tell them the situation. They will spay her right away. It will cost a little more because she's in heat, but far less than the cost or tending a pregnant female who may end up needing a c-section (Chihuahua's often do) caring for mom and pups after the birth shots for the pups.. the list is endless.
No need to worry. Just get her spayed right away. Book the male to be neutered too.

The liklihood is your dog is pregnant now. You do have the option of taking your dog to be fixed and having the puppies aborted. You don't necessarily have to get her fixed, but if you don't want the puppies, then it may be the best idea at this time. She may not do very well with a pregnancy involving another breed, though things may be ok since maltese's are also super small. If you don't want puppies you shouldn't wait too long or you may not have a choice. Good luck.

I would call the vet and talk to him/her about it. If he has seen both dogs in the past he would know if there would be issues surrounding safe delivery of the puppies.
If they are both papered, purebred dogs sell the puppies as exotics and you could get as much as $1500.00 a piece for them.
There are lots of exotic crosses out there and they call them "designer" dogs....like Pugs & Beagles....they call them Puggles and IMO they are not the best looking dogs either but hey....who am I to say that the cross was the wrong thing to do. I personally think they could be quite cute if not adorable. There is already a silky haired chihuahua that is very adorable.
What you do and what you decide to do with the possibility of puppies is up to you. And 4 yrs old is not too old to breed a ***** for the first time. And Maltese Poodles are very small when they are born.
I would base your decision on what you and your vet come up with for what to do and not on a bunch of O's that have no basis in reality.

Call your vet and make an appt to have her spayed. She is already four years so the chances of a C-section are high unless she is a large Chihuahua. There is no need for her to go through an unwanted pregnancy and a spay is a heck of a lot cheaper than a C-section.

Has she had any litters before? My Chi was over 2 and never had any babies so I had her spayed when I got her as the vet advised that it wouldn't be wise to breed her now. 2nd, the mother needs to be bigger than the father, otherwise major complications can arise during pregnancy and delivery putting the mother's life at risk. I agree, get her spayed and save her from alot of pain and possibly saving her life too...

Call your vet. They can do a spay surgery as soon as she comes out of season, in about 4 weeks. It only takes 1 well timed breeding to produce a litter.

Have her spayed NOW. The uterus begins to atrophy at age four and most responsible breeders will not breed at that age because of the risk to the female. It will also prevent the birth of unwanted pups, so it's really the safest and kindest thing you can do right now.

if she has never been bred before she may not know what to do and refuse the pups.
Also is the maletese bigger than your chi if so this can cause problems.
I would strongly suggest taking bothand getting them fixed.
That way you wont have to worry about teh pups and mom and the male may now really start marking his territory and trying to escape even more to find females ( a male can smell a female in heat upto 5 miles away they get to her and smell another and keep going)
Good Luck
