That is a religious concept. Assuming God is Omnipotent he already knows what is going to happen in the future. Therefore a person has to do what God knows he will do. Thus predestiny. With quantum physics most scientist believe predestiny is not possible.

Oh my gosh, people screw this one up more than any other biblical doctrine. Predestiny does NOT mean God decided way back when whom He would save and whom He would throw into the lake of fire. That is simply contrary to everything we know and believe about God ... especially the part about God being loving and merciful.

Predestiny simply means that God knew way before we were born whether we would choose everlasting life through Jesus Christ or refuse His gift of salvation. For those He knew would take His gift, He wrote their names in the Lamb's Book of Life. If you've chosen Jesus Christ as your savior or if you will in the future, God has already made reservations for you, either in heaven or in New Jerusalem. Predestiny – God foresaw your future!

I don't personally believe in predestiny, but this is what it is:

Predestination basically says that at the beginning of the world God decided who would go to heaven and who wouldn't. If God decided you would get to go to heaven, it wouldn't matter how bad you were: You'd still go. But, if he decided you wouldn't go to heaven, no matter how good you were, no matter how much you loved God, or how long you served him, you would never go to hell.

The reason I don't believe in predestination is because if God predetermined who would be saved and who wouldn't, then why in the world would he send his Son Jesus to die? Why would He give us free will? Why would he give us his words in the Bible so we would know how to live? I believe predestination is a bunch of hogwash, but I know there are many, many people who earnestly believe in it.

predestination is the knowing something will happen & in fact making it happen. Many people believe that God predestines people to their life styles, this is untrue, we are free moral agents & the choices we make in life can change our life, (forinstance we can choose to be a theif) thats a choice we make on our own, God doesn't predestine it. However he does predestine some things, in the begining, he created Adam & Eve, & purposed for them to fill the planet with perfect people, well they sinned , but the 1st phrophecy in the Bible ge 3:15 shows that he would "FIX" things. the earth is predestined to be a planet ffilled with perfect people. He is carrying out that throught his Kingdom with his son as King would ;you like to know more? email me

Predestination is very much in line with how we understand the nature of God being infinite and sovereign (rules over all).
We do have free will to choose what we choose, but is it not possible for an infinite and sovereign God to have determined it in advance? You do have to step away intellectually to catch this, but it is fact.

Old Testament is great isn't it. I can stone my wife to death if I discover she's not a virgin on my wedding night.

Way to go!
