The key word here is "peak". DLH would never have taken this fight precisely because he never beat anyone at their peak.

I know....DLH fought Trinidad and many believe he won. Hearns would not have fought DLH the way Trinidad did. Trinidad fought like it was his 1st time at the "big show". DLH had the perfect opportunity to rise to the occasion against Trinidad and he blew it. DLH did not rise in weight with any kind of power that would have garnered respect from Hearns.

Hearns has all the advantages.......height, reach, speed and........oh yeah, I almost forgot.......POWER. He would have walked through DLH.

Hearns' career speaks for itself. He left enough evidence to see that this fight would have been a mis-match.

I'd go with the Hitman Tommy Hearns. Hearns is taller and has longer reach, which he could use to full advantage in keeping DLH at bay. Hearns also has that quick left jab which would disorient DLH all night. Then, he could throw that sledge-hammer of a right that would knock DLH out of his senses. I pick Hearns by KO in 8.

If this were a bet...my money would be on Hearns.

On paper, The Hit Man wins this easily (too big...too strong). But I remember saying that about Hearns-Leonard 1...and it didn't exactly work out that way...LOL

While Hearns overall has the superior tools...I'd have to give the edge in heart to DLH. Never underestimate a great boxer w/ heart!

As much as i like De La Hoya i would have to go with Hearns, this is my reason why. DLH is a great fighter BUT most of his popularity comes from even better marketability, he has been in some great fights but he usually seems to falter once the big fights come, sure he has 2 wins over Julio Cesar Chavez but he was past his prime, you can also make an argument of the loses to Trinidad and Mayweather but the bottom line is he lost, he doesn't seem to win them when it counts. Now Tommy Hearns, this guy took out Roberto Duran in the 2nd round, took out Pipino Cuevas in the 2nd round to win the WBA belt, and was in the 1981 fight of the year against Sugar Ray Leonard, even though he lost two of the three big fights he was in he was still far better competition wise than DLH. DLH seems to hand pick his opponents and most are big names who just dont have it anymore like Gatti, JCC, Quartey, Whittaker, Camacho, Castillejo, and the list goes on and on. I'm a huge DLH fan and this is in no way bashing him but you asked the question and i answered from my honest opinion. Now i'm just sitting thinking how f'ing great that fight would have been.

Hearns would destroy DLH to fast too strong. Hearns only lost to Hall of Famers...

i would go with hearns ,his jab and power would keep oscar from taking necessary chances to get to hearns.i think oscar may have had enough power to hurt hearns, but would have to risk getting koed himself .hearns had the power to ko anybody at that weight .if it were a 15 round fight oscar chances would be better he would have try to do what sugar ray did .i think oscars only chance would be a late round ko.hearns could easily outpoint oscar just with his jab and if he landed any right hands it might be over ,hearns could win by ko or decision.i would go with hearns by decision probably easy decision in a 12 rounder.

Hearns, ko in 1. Before asking this Q, research Hearns' frightening ko power.

Tommy Hearns would pound Oscar's head in! Not really a fair match-up because Oscar was much better at the lower weights. once he got to 147, he became quite beatable.
