While I know that the aphorism that mutts are healthier than purebred dogs is a popular one, it happens to be completely untrue. When bred carefully by a responsible breeder, a purebred is less likely to exhibit health issues because those breeders work extremely hard to eradicate them from the breed. They will eliminate any dog from their breeding program who manifests them or whose ANCESTORS, (on their pedigree) have manifested or produced them in their offspring. Responsible breeders also do health screenings and genetic testing on their dogs.
If you take a male purebred who is a carrier for three health issues known to the breed and breed it to a female who is similarly a carrier, they will produce puppies with a possibility of exhibiting those THREE health issues. If you take that same male and breed it to a female of a different breed who carries three health issues known to THAT particular breed, you will then produce puppies with a possiblilty of exhibiting SIX health issues. Also, the introduction of DNA from a differerent breed can cause genes to behave differently, so a dangerous health issue that had in the past been recessive could become dominant.
The key to owning a healthy purebred is responsible breeding.

To say mixed breed dogs are healthier than purebreds is also saying that purebreds are healthier than mixed breeds - neither one is correct! A dog with good genes and no problems can exist in either scenario - the only real difference is that purebreds are usually screened and are purposely bred for certain characteristics. Then you get the breeders who breed their dogs with anything - healthy or not - as long as it's a "purebred" that they can make more $$ off of... which flushes all the good breeders work right down the toilet & you're back to square one again.

I think that purebreeds are commonly believed to be healthier then mutts, but this is dependant on the breed. Also there is a right and wrong way to make purebred lines involving incest (relatives should never mate) but since purebred dogs are worth so much more there are a lot of breeders practicing bad breeding methods to increase profit, these methods can lead to health issues.
As for obediance like health a lot of it depends on the breed, I like to review www.dogbreedinfo.com to find the unique charecteristics of certain breeds. for example a mutt may be a mix of two very strong willed breeds, which I dont think it will be any more obediant just because they were mixed together.

It's just you. There is NO truth to mix breeds being smarter or more obedient or more healthy.
That said.... purebred dogs who are bred by idiots with out a clue and do no pedigree research often will produce dogs who have health issues because they are totally unaware how genes are passed. They don't care and have no desire to learn. Those type of ignorant back yard breeders give purebred dogs a bad rap.

Your purebreds are all breeds not famous for their obedience. A border collie or a poodle or a retreiver would maybe be a different tale not to mention how old were the mixed and the pure when you got them? the raising matters too....
As for health I'm on a support list for a cronic health problem believed heritatary - the #1 breed on it - mixed breed!

i think its just the personality of the dogs you have. some mixes do not go well and do not listen because of a misunderstanding on what 1/2 of their blood is calling for. (like 1/2 border collie and 1/2 golden retriever or something. people might be like "why is is so hyper? " when the owner is only focusing on the golden retriever side of the dog) -- if that makes sense.

Mixed breeds tend to be healthier because purebreds are OVERBRED. Quality breeders will usually not have stock with any health conditions. I have found also that rescue dogs are always more obedient. I believe its because they are grateful. When you raise a dog from a pup, if not trained correctly, they become similiar to snotty rich kids. I have a Rat Terrier thats obnoxious that I raised from a pup, he's got a hard head and is all about himself. I rescued a border collie that would do anything for you. So you are correct, but you need to teach your dogs manners and become the alpha, dont let them walk all over you.

Mixes are usually healthier since they have a larger stock of healthy aspects they can pull from genetically. Obedience is usually up to the training that the owner puts into them and what task you want each breed to do.

A lot of it is your dogs. But purebreds more often get health problems associated with that particular breed (especially if the dog is a result of inbreeding). While the mixed breeds tend to be less likely to inherit health problems.

just ours.
It just depends on the dog itself not the breed or anything like that, it also has to do with training methods.
treat them all the same and train them all the same way
