It's not just bad for kids; it's bad for everyone. There are numerous websites out there detailing the many different side effects of aspartame.
To Sapphire: If you happen to come back and read this, I'd strongly suggest doing research on Splenda before you eat any more of it. Splenda starts out as sugar, but by the time they're done with it, it's no longer chemically recognizable as sugar. It's actually chlorinated sugar! There are many websites out there about the dangers of Splenda/sucralose as well. In fact, I've had side effects from it myself. I wouldn't recommend using it.

When I was once pregnant with my son, I had gestational diabetes and the health facility nutritionist instructed me that aspartame was once an artificial amino acid and there have been extra amino acids in a eight ounces. glass of milk than in an eight ouncesglass of vitamin coke. All I can say is pass to the FDA or the CDC web pages and notice if you'll be able to uncover some thing. But moderation is vital. Drink extra water. Yes, mostly ingesting vitamin beverages would potentially make you obtain weight. What men and women would suppose is that if I drink this vitamin coke, I could have one other sweet bar. Saving energy at the drink!

I agree that aspartame is bad for everybody. It's a man made chemical. I use Splenda. It's supposed to be made from real sugar. Hopefully we won't hear something different in ten years or so.

Yes. All artificial sweeteners are just that--FAKE. Check out the site www.sweetpoison.com for the truth on fake sugars.
The best ways (in my opinion) to sweeten food is natural sugar (meaning turbinado or raw sugar), honey, stevia or blue agave nectar.
In reality its really best to monitor sugar intake and to understand sugars. REAL Natural occurring sugars (such as in fruit, peanut butter, etc) are perfectly fine in a 'normal' diet. Its the added sugars and even worse high fructose corn syrup that is really awful.

I would hesitate to eat it myself- and it would be worse for kids. You see, aspartame was originally developed as an ant killer. That's something that won't be advertised by the companies that use the stuff in food.
