If you work in a place with buffets people tend to feel you didnt do as much(not take order and bring the food) so tend to tip less. Diners are big on lunch and dinner specials and if people are going to tip on the 10-15% standard usually the food isnt as expensive. Steakhouses where you go through line and order and then waitstaff brings your food tend to be decent places for tips. Places that serve alchol in general tend to be places where tips are good. The better quality of food and higher prices usually means better tips. Places like Applebees, Ruby Tuesday, Chillis and even more exclusive higher priced and requiring reservarions are the very best places to work for tips.

It's close between diners and fine-dining, with fine dining edging out the diner.

With fine dining the tip is larger, but you get less of them due to people staying alot longer than in a diner. A diner is high volume. Smaller tips, but more of them. It just boils down to the quality of work. Would you like 100 $2 tips or 10 $20 tips?

Dinner for 2 @ an expensive restaurant 75.00, tip @ 15% is 11.20, dinner for 2 @ a diner 20.00, the tip @ 15% is 3.00. If the patrons sit at the table for the same amount of time, the turnover by the waiter would be much larger at the finer dining establishment, they also tend to pay slightly higher hourly.

Probably, because when richer people want to go out to eat they're problably in a good mood so they give better tips and they most likely have a lot of money if they are going to fine-dining

Yes, people usually tip better in nice restaurants, than in diners. The nicer the atmosphere, the nicer the tip.

Five stars resort dining is the best locale for tips. Relaxed atmosphere...great wine list, outstanding service....definitely higer tips. (like $500+ per day)

i would imagine so! i think the food is generally better in diners and steak houses and stuff, but fine waters and waitresses probably get paid more simply because they can put on a tuxido and put on a fancy accent! :D
