I'm 15 and I'm interested in filmmaking as well, so I'm glad I could view something made my someone in a similar situation. First off, I've never taken a video editing class either, except for a Fundamentals of Broadcasting class which had nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with filmmaking even remotely (it was all study guides :-p). However, I don't think you need to take a class to be good, and in my case, I wish I hadn't taken the broadcasting class, because for our final news stories, every single edit had to take place according to a strict set of guidelines. Too much headroom, correct it. Person not in the exact center of frame, correct it. You didn't include two interviews, correct it. See what I mean? It really made me want to kill myself, but at least I'm glad to have distinguished the difference between filmmaking and a class that discourages creativity. Anyways, sorry for rambling, but here's what I thought about your video. I'll be very honest, it wasn't great, but I'd say it was good, considering you don't have a ton of experience (neither do I!). The main criticism I have is that it seemed more like a collection of clips from the movie 300, rather than a trailer for the movie 300 (I realize a trailer IS a collection of clips, but you know what I mean). Also, it was a bit long for a trailer. I think if you cut it down to at least half the size, or even smaller, it probably would have been a little better. Overall, the editing itself was not bad at all, just the fact that it could have been a little bit snappier, if you will. One part, at around 3:04, where the guy yells (I haven't seen 300, by the way. Don't kill me :-), I think you probably could have used that as a stepping stone for a huge emotional impact sequence following that. But then again, what do I know? I hope I didn't sound too much like a stuck-up bastard, but I was just being honest. Overall, good job with the video! Anyways, hope this helped, and feel free to contact me to talk about filmmaking and stuff and maybe we can help each other out in the future. If you want to see my three (fairly bad) videos, you can go to youtube and search thelordoftheringsfan.
