accuracy and distance are not a factor if your question is if a 1600fps pellet would kill a coyote in a head shot. The answer is yes if it entered the brain, and was traveling a 1600 fps at the time of impact. The other answerer's talking about distance have a valid point in the fact that a muzzle velocity of 1600fps for a very light projectile such as a pellet will not equal 1600 fps at 100 or even 50 yards. a pellet would most likely not be lethal at 100 yards for a 18 grain projectile starting out a 1600 fps. A head shot is a head shot and is the most lethal and probably the only shot placement that will have any chance of killing the coyote with your ballistics. Happy hunting, I hate coyotes.

Immediately? No. Don't do it. Kills such as this one are inhumane and unsporting. If the animal in question were to die, it would be more likely to die from infection or from going blind (if by ill luck the pellet struck the eye or optic nerve) and being unable to survive the wild in its debilitated state. Seriously though, a hunter friend of mine tried to finish off a deer which had been struck and was left dying on the side of the road. The bullets bounced off the skull of the dear. (115 gr. bullet in excess of 1200 fps) If this bullet failed to penetrate the skull of this animal, what odds do you give to a 9 grain bullet traveling at only 400 fps faster? The physics are against it. While there is an outside chance, even .22 amunition with bullets weighing 40 grains can only penetrate a skull when traveling in excess of 2000fps. And these are still not always deadly. If you need something to kill coyote's, do yourself and the animals a favor and go for something sufficiently powered and use a .25-06 or larger/more powerful round. There are numerous websites which help determine the bullet size needed for any particular size game, so be a sportsman, and do a little research. Keep in mind also that the farther off your target, the slower your projectile will fly, and the less kinetic energy will remain.

To answer your question you can't ******* kill a coyote with a pellet gun!!! Common sense. And when you said that my 300 was ok then you come and shoot the damn thing!!! It has a two round clip and one in the chamber bumbo and when I shoot the first round the shell does not come out of the gun fully. I know what I am talking about moron and you should not judge me because I have a different gun!!! After the first round jams then the gun cycles correctly. You would understand my question if you shot a deer and had to shot it again but could not wen the casing is half way out!!!

it depends on how far you are...point blank...probably. but as velocity increase the accruacy decreases, hitting a coyote is pretty hard from a safe distance. if you use heavier pellets, fps goes down but more energy and yeah you would probably kill it with a good placed shot. hollow point pellet would help but for such a big animal, killing him i would use a .22 or even 9mm and not a airgun...that would just make it mad as hell.

If it is a alloy pellet then yes it would. If it was a led pellet then it would splatter on the skull, injuring the coyote but not killing it.
Try one of these...

heck no....and dave up there wants you to splatter it into a greasey spot in the grass...a 300 mag??! I shoot moose with mine....1700lbs not 30lbs...but it is a better choice than a pellet gun...pellets are good for targets...made out of paper...thin paper...for kids...or indoors...
