I'm confused about my two dogs. You see, I'm afraid the second one's already attatched to me even if I've had her only for a day. Our current dog is quiet and I like it that way. But since we've gotten the new dog the old one is playful to the point of being annoying.

I think animals have feelings and I don't want the new one's feelings to be hurt since this is a trial run and we could give her back any time.

I'm beginning to become obsessed. I have two questions that need answering.
1. Do you think being this playful will wear off over time? (My first dog wants to play with my second dog ALL THE TIME)
2. How do you get rid of obsession?

The youngest (newest) is 2, the oldest (first one) is 4. Thanks for pointing that out - I completely forgot to add those details!

All dogs are different. When you have two dogs that are opposite from each other.... they might get on one an others nerves. A puppy to an older dog might just be flat out annoying. Since puppies require a lot of time, teach him now that he's not the only dog in the house. That way both dog will get the attention they require; even if the type of attention is different.

Puppies love to play which we all know. Will they grow out of it you ask, No. All dogs want to play and there humans should want them to. It's healthy for them just like going on walks. Playing games can help keep them happy since they are being stimulated. They aren't like cats who 97% of the time are content doing nothing.

Most dogs do tend to calm down as they get older. How much older depends on the dog as well as how much they will calm down.

Something to keep in mind: Just cause your older dog doesn't like change doesn't mean you have to give the new dog back. In the long run dogs are like people, they do better with a friend. In a while from now they will get used to each other and be better of being together. That saying 'Good things come to those who wait' applies to many things, even pets.

As they age, the playfulness should calm down. I don't know why you're annoyed by them playing together. That's the ultimate relationship for dogs. They're pals.

The second problem is that nobody is paying attention to you now. Your pets don't need you for love and affection, they have each other. Is that what you want?

You can train the dogs to go to their kennel and lay down, to stop the playing.

New dog has not had time to get attached to you. She's probably much more attached to your dog, but one day is not enough time to cause emotional damage if you give dog #2 back.

Your dogs need to be walked 2 times a day for at least 30/45 minutes. You also need to play with them every couple hours. I can't always play with my dog this often due to work and traveling so my boyfriend goes to my house and takes care of this for me. The playing should wear off, it's a new dog so your older one is excited! If you excercise your dog well and love on them BOTH the same amount. You wont have any problem, and don't give the new dog back. Your older one obviously LOVES the new dog and that would be devastating to your dog. Good Luck!

1) How old are these dogs? Are they getting enough exercise, in the form of a nice long walk, EVERY DAY? If they are tired out, they won't have much spare energy for horse-play!

2) Obssession, yours? or the dogs'?

All dogs have different energy levels. My current dog is 3 and still is all puppy, a lot of energy most of the time and wants our attention, so I play with her a lot, take her for walks and give her lots of toys she can play with. Wears me out, but I love her!!!
