GOOD or BAD idea?

Question

I have to give a devotion about anything...I have decided to do it on the putting on the Full Armor of God. My devotion is going to be given to a group of girls ranging from 1st to 6th grade. Since my devotion is for a group of girls it might as well be designed for a group of girls. I am making my lesson title "Putting On the Full Outfit of God" because I figured most of the girls wouldn't really care about having on an armor. In place of the pants would be a skirt, in place of the breastplate would be a tank top, in place of the shoes would be flip-flops, and in place of the helmet will be a headband. I still haven't decided what to use for the shield and the sword. I will take any ideas as to what to use for these and ideas to add on to my devotion. Please tell me if you think this is a good or bad idea and why.

for the shield i decided to use sunglasses because they shield the sun form your eyes...i'm still debating about the skirt, tank top, and headband because they are kinda changing the idea from the passage.

Seriously, I think that changing all the parts of God's suit of armor is a bad idea. The pieces of armour are named such for a reason.

Perhaps the following scriptures will help.

"Clothe yourselves with love" -Colossians 3:14

"But all of you gird yourselves with lowliness of mind toward one another" -1 Peter 5:5

"clothe yourselves with the tender affections of compassion, kindness, lowliness of mind, mildness, and long-suffering" -Colossians 3:12

"For he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; with the sleeveless coat of righteousness he has enwrapped me" -Isaiah 61:10

This is a BAD idea. The full armor of God uses the idea of a soldier preparing for battle. Just as a soldier puts on his armor so he can go into battle prepared, so we must put on our spiritual armor so we will be prepared for the spiritual warfare that comes our way. The tank top, headband, etc. completely lose this analogy.

Here is another passage that deals with spiritual warfare.

2 Corinthians 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh,
4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.
5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

Remember, the idea of the passage about the full armor of God is warfare. As long as we are on the earth we are in spiritual warfare whether we know it or not, whether we are prepared for it or not. Also please note, the only offensive weapon is the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. All the other armor is defensive.

I would say go ahead and change it, but don't change the message of having power when we have on these items. As long as they get the message of this protecting us from the spiritual warfare I am OK with it. I would however keep the sword as the Bible, I think that would be the best way to do it.

Not a Christian at all, but honestly, your analogy is really bad. Further, it trivializes what should be an important spiritual principle. I mean, do you REALLY want these girls to equate spiritual warfare with going to the mall?

If you have to water it down, they are too young for the lesson.

just stick with the armor story but make it more "girl-friendly" by giving them "girl" examples lol
