Keep her mind stimulated with coloring, crafts, and educational activities.

Physical activity like dancing can also be fun for an active girl that's stuck in the house.

Ok with discipline, you need to talk to the parents first on what they view as acceptable disciplinary action for what behavior. That way there is no misunderstandings that could possibly land you in a court room. I just felt that aspect took the highest importiance in your question. When you speak to them, if she hasn't been acting up, reassure them that she is doing fine, but if it ever occurs, that you want to be able to issue discipline that they are already using. If she has been acting up, outline what she has been doing, what lead up to the outburst, and why you felt the behavior was inappropriate. This will show them that you're mature enough to respect their discipline style and you respect their daughter. Are there parks in the area? Friends of hers that live nearby? If it's acceptable with the parents, you could have a friend of hers over or take her and a friend to the park and do the whole hair and painting the nails thing, or playing frizbee or whatever things the park offers. Does she have a bicycle? Maybe walking with her around the block while she's bicycling would help keep her entertained. Does the family have a lawn sprinkler? Let her run through the sprinkler, it's hot as an oven this year, I'm sure she'd love it. Just a few things that came to mind.

She should like coloring, cutting on lines, tracing pictures for an hour or so a day. Try teaching her to make pictures, simple line drawings like from Ed Emberly's Drawing Book of Animals. Six year olds love that. Change her activities. Go for a walk for half an hour, or take her swimming. Or simply let her run through the sprinkler at your house. (It is summer, after all) Take her to a park to swing, slide etc. as a reward for helping out a little bit. She can watch Sesame Street every day, but not too much TV. Read to her. Have her help you make cookies. Change activities approximately every hour and she should be quite entertained. This is a little difficult for a babysitter, though. If possible, have another six year old come over. They love to play Barbies, board games suitable to her age, play outside, play dress-up. With a friend over you will not have to keep entertaining her nearly as much.

Hey there!
I babysit a 5 and 7 year old. Both are girls and are really active and ALWAYS want something to do!
In those 9 hours, you should write yourself a list of activities you can do during the day.Something like this should work!

~Toy Chest Games: Hide 3 of her favorite toys in one room, then she has to find them. Then, she'll probably want to hide them for you to find! Move on to different rooms, too!

~Beading: Get a bag of big beads and string and tell her that your gonna make necklaces with her. When she's done making the necklace, you should give her the one you made and shell give you the one she made!

~Popsicle stick Puppetts: Draw a few people, but like simple, fat, cartoons, not very detailed, and so she can color them. You can draw maybe a princess, a prince, a queen, a kind, a dragon, a fair, and maybe a witch, too. Shen, she'll color them all and you will cut them out, and tape them to popsicle sticks, and then you can make a puppet show! Then she'll probbaly want to make one for you, lol.

~Read her a few books: That's always easy and fun!

~Daycare Game: If she has a little puppy stuffed animal or baby, you can play daycare, wheer you make a little bed, some food, toys, and just take care of the dog or baby. If it's a baby you can even make a diaper for it out of toilette paper. She'll like that.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My daughter is 5 and an only child. When she is bored she will want to play doll house or princess with me or have a tea party. If I can get her to go outside a ride her scooter or bike or walk on the beach, I would rather do that. But, sometimes dad has to sit cross legged on the floor and play with dolls.

Take her on a picnic in the park. Bring some sandwiches, sugar cookies, a thermos full of ice tea, and a Frisbee or her favorite doll. You'll have a blast.

It's better than being in the house, watching TV on a beautiful summers day.

First, ask the parents what they do and then follow through appropriately. Secondly, have appropriate toys and games available to keep the child occupied. Talk with the child. Find out what she would like to do and then do it with her. Children usually respond very well to adult who show a willingness to play. Make sure to report the squealing behavior to the parents so they know what's going on.

I babysit an 8 year old girl and I have the same problem only when she gets bored, she sobs and cries for her mom and fakes being sick. I have to find ways to keep her busy and find things for her to do. She loves making bead designs with perler beads (www.perlerbeads.com) so I always have them for her to make and then I iron it. Lots of kids love them and it's something for them to do. Other times I'll take her to an arts and crafts store and we'll get something to make that will keep her occupied. Art supplies are great because there's always something you can come up with to make. I highly recommend the perler beads though!
