10% of the population lives on $1 a day...but the point is, if they tried to make a better country with more opportunities then they would ALL be better off. They have the resources, so why don't they do that?

ricmon..you can't be serious...you don't have ANY idea why I asked this question in immigration? The reason I do is because it is Mexico's long time welfare policy to send the poverty to the USA as illegal aliens. If Mexico has the RICHEST man on earth...you would think that they wouldn't have to have such a policy and BECAUSE of that policy, the USA is turning into another Mexico.

Mexico is not poor by far... Their GNP is quite good, its just that the top is hording the money and opportunities without spreading the wealth... Its called greed...
This is now happening in the US also, the gap between the have and the have nots is growing rapidly. If we keep on the same track we will see poverty increase rapidly and have more and more people who live below the poverty level. we are letting our middle class be attacked by illegal immigration, our government and big business who will break the law for cheap labor.. Not to mention taxing them to death...

This is great question , well it is like this, you're also aware that Russia have the same problem not so crucial like in Mexico but the system is very similar, you can abstract people in two groups, rich and poor. Switzerland has a highly successful market economy based on international trade and banking. Its standards of living, worker productivity, quality of education, health care system it's 10 x better than in the USA.And I will stick to that, Europe VS USA. The economy is heavily dependent on foreign guest workers, who represent approximately 20% of the labor force.I have some family in the Switzerland and I know very well what I'm talking about. You must be aware that European Countries care much more for the people than in Mexico that also means and for the USA, that is why all Americans want to live in Europe .Europeans, generally speaking, are more interested in producing an end result that is close to economic equality or which is economically “fair” to all. Americans, on the other hand, are less interested in ensuring everyone maintains a certain minimum level and are more interested in making sure each individual has a higher opportunity for unlimited success or unlimited failure. Americans value monetary rewards higher, while Europeans value quality of life rewards greater. America is set up to grow richer monetarily, while the EU is set up to grow richer in quality of life. I think that you just can't compare Mexico with any European country. You know thanks for the idea I think that I will post a great question now Europe against America, lol sorry that I didn't stick my facts more to this issue but i just wanted to say some things that will also surprise you. Mexico is consider a poor country because the ones who judge Mexico live in a rich country even when the national deficit of such of rich countries ascend to 48 trillion dollars that is a number that a lot of you people can't count to. it's OK. we do not judge your united states education system i know that any Mexican in 9 grade in Mexico can come to the states and get his high school diploma when it takes Americans about 12 years so who is more ignorant .anyway just a tip so you all know for the ones who think they know anything about Mexico in Mexico 95 % of the population own their homes paid for baby unlike in the us where hardly anybody owns a home because got to pay for 30 years by the time the house is paid the person dies yes this is america where no body owns nothing but like to talk a lot of **** about others so better keep that job so you can pay for that house payment white boy or you will be on the street.

Also more people in Mexico. The standard of living lower in Mexico eg health care. The standard of living in the USA is lower than in Switzerland and how many billionaires live in the states.

Because Mexico has a large quantity of people living under the poverty level. The "billionaires" are fare fewer than the poor.

first of all, switzerland is only 39,770 sq km large (mexico is 1,923,040 sq km), so you see there is already a problem trying to fit a lot of billionaires there. sencondly, while only having about 7% of the population of mexico, switzerland GDP is 22% of mexico's. yea and saying that it is because of population is a little misleading.

I know what your saying; but plain and simple it's because of the gap between the rich and the poor; also the rich take advantage of the poor by not paying much for their work. I think if the border opened up it would cause widespread controversy.

have you ever been to mexico even??? i go to ciudad juarez all the time, and its heartbreaking..the poverty is unspeakable..the mexican schools demands parents buy uniforms and books and er'thing to send the kids to school. most families cant afford those expenses, so the kids get no education. the mexican politicains have been stealing $ for decades. mexico's poor as can be, and its because mexico's own leaders havent cared. they give no education, theyd rather their ppl immigrate to the u.s. and send $ home. mexico's govt makes slaves out of their ppl, yet they immigrate here and wanna shove mexico and their "culture" down our throats.

The Mexican elites take advantage of the average citizens. No labor or safety laws. People must work for a very small sum.
That is why US companies move across the border. They don't have to make their company a safe place to work, no benefits, and can use virtual slave labor.

Get out your atlans and look at the size and population of each of those countries and then think about what you have just asked. Also ask yourself about the size of middle class and poor class in each country. How about the gap between the billionaires and ordinary person in each country? It is not as simple as you might think.
