I think the best way is to first find others that agree with you to think up a realistic plan that works. This means it must be paid for somehow and that it must be managed well (good response time).

Just saying you need universal healthcare in abstract is not useful because it's just daydreaming without a plan. So connect with others that feel the same way, find out how other countries do it, and figure out which parts will work for the U.S. and which will not.

Once you have such a plan, and backed by like-minded people, start drafting a letter to be sent to your house representatives and senators. Have everyone send it, and start spreading the word. Create a website describing your plan and invite people to check it out, with a form that visitors can use to send an email to their house representatives and senators. Call up talk radio shows and suggest the plan, but you may need to find a show that is open to the idea to begin with since there are many that won't even hear of it.

And that's a constant problem you'll have. Some people are ideologically opposed to the idea and won't even hear it. Most of them (like some of the responses here) you shouldn't even talk to because it'd be a waste of your time. Just build up support from those that are open to the idea with a workable plan and get more people informed about the plan.

When you get enough recognition of the plan, your elected representatives will naturally flock to support it.

America is pretty much the only first world nation in the world that does not have universal health care. Why people think it's ok to let the poor and downtrodden in this country choose between seeing a doctor and suffer crippling debt or live with illnesses or injuries without medical attention is beyond me. It's reprehensible and extremely selfish. People who don't want it already get coverage from work or elsewhere and generally don't give a **** about anyone but themselves.

Tell your representatives that you are a Democrat and that you don't care about the Constitution, you want them to vote for other people to pay for your health care.

The Tenth Amendment says:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved for the States respectively, or to the people.

You are not going to find anything in the constitution about the government being responsible for making sure everyone has health care. Universal Health Care is unconstitutional.

You can demand all you want. Unless there is some dramatic groundswell of demand from millions of people, it won't happen.

I for one will be demanding the other way, as I believer government run Universal Healthcare would be a terrible thing.

You can demand all you want but first go find out for rear if you want it. look at the VA this is a Government Health care. And go to Canada and the EU and see just what is in store with it. Once you have opened your eyes I don't think you will want it.
GO GET A JOB AND BUY IT.

Start by writing a POLITE letter stating your feelings, back it up with some facts and remind them that you are an active voter.

Encourage your firends to do the same.
