I'm a Christian, but respect other religions and atheists, but find it so frustrating when people are rude about Christians. Why are people rude about Christianity?

Christians have looked down upon other ideas since more than 1000 years. They still pretend they are better than others and cannot sustain that claim. Where they have political power (some african countries, the Phillippines etc.) they still try to discriminate against people with other ideas.
Christians (and muslims) are very sensitive and apply different criteria to define when they are insulted and when they want to insult other people.
An example: The Pope and fundamentalists are still against the use of condoms. In my eyes that is insulting and criminal. If I say the Pope is a criminal, catholics see the the persecutions behind the next corner.

Furthermore, I feel christians (and muslims) are looking for insults. I think they enjoy it.

Lastly: In my eyes ideas (like religion) are instruments for mankind. They should not be respected, people should be respected.
Ideas should be examined, researched, discussed and when not correct, discarded.
I really do not see why some ideas should be respected if they can not give one shred of evidence of their claims.

Most of all it would help if you could give us a few examples. You might already refute part of what I say here. Now you just shout.

In my opinion, christianity & all the religions will faze out in the future. Hopefully, to be replaced with an all knowing human conscience, that has developed from free thinking individuals, like some who write on here, people who have 'mentally grown' within the great democracy we share. The internet is making this happen now!! The problem is, that if christianity had, had its way, all the rights and freedoms we enjoy today, would not be here! ... Christianity & judiasm/islam, has tried to put a stop to all major government bills over many years, bills that give rights to people! ...... People, like myself, who consider themselves free thinkers, see all this happening about them. In my opinion, this is why sometimes rudeness is fired at christians! ... Oh, also because the three major religions, dont know the truth about what they worship. They also believe some things in the teachings, but ignore others. How can you take anyone seriously, with that sort of record?? I agree however, that rudeness is something 'everyone' should try to avoid using! ... :o)

Some people are rude because they are ignorant. Some people just can't accept that other people have different beliefs or opinions. Some people don't understand how others can believe in God when there is no 'proof' and feel that Christianity is just wrong.

I respect any beliefs or religion that someone wants to follow, it's their own choice and we shouldn't try to impose our beliefs on others. The best thing to do is just ignore the haters! :D

i also am a christian and have come across the same problem. i try to be respectful of other peoples differences. i am interested in other peoples cultures, i quess if we take a look back through history that the christians weren't always very nice people. they very often went into non-christian lands and gave the people no choices about becoming christians. they forced people to become christians or die after being tortured. the spanish inquision is just one of the incidences. so, i guess if you looked back in history you might be able to understand the reason why other religions and cultures might have reason to dislike christians, even here in our own country.

Because SOME (the majority where I live) are Bible-thumping-convert-to-Christianity-or-you'll-die-and-forever burn-in-hell-who-think-everyone-but-Christians-are-satan-worshippers that don't respect other people or their religion although supposedly their religion teaches religious tolerance. I'll respect you if you respect me. I don't care if people want to spread the word of God or talk about their religion but if you try to convert or "save" me I'll be rude about it.

But if people are like you say you are (I don't know cause I don't know you) then fine, it's cool.

It is very popular to bash Christians and deliver "hate filled" verses hand-picked from the Bible that are no longer part of our covenant with God (2000 years removed). The guy who quoted from the Pentateuch didn't mention that those rules are part of an old covenant that ended with the death of Christ. All Christians are called to love their fellow man and serve God by obedience to the New Testament and to the fulfilled law. Christ did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. Those rules are old school now that Christ came and died.

Also, it is an incredibly unpopular belief that each person will see an all-powerful being to account for the way they lived their life. It's easier to fight tooth and nail than to admit that we all need forgiven by God.

Peace and Love,

Mike

Those fundies can be plenty rude too. But so are the atheists,or a lot of them. Very. I believe people on R&S should exhibit a modicum of respect for other people's beliefs - even though those beliefs might seem silly.

Perhaps it's because many so called Christians act as though they are better than the none believer and this in it's self acts as a catalist for rudeness towards Christians.

Think about it all you read from Christians how wrong it is not to be a one of them. Christ did not force people to become Christians so why do some of his followers think they have the right to think they are superior.

I went to a Church of Scotland service years ago and was told that it was not usual practice for people to worship there if they did not belong to that church.

I think you need not further answers as mine says it all.

Are you referring to Christians themselves being rude, or people being rude to Christians.

A lot of people have been feed some line about how awful Christians are. Then they manage to met one that fulfills their expectations and then think that all Christians are like this.

In the reality, a lot of people I have met have never met truly hostile Christians, but they treat all Christians as though they fit this description. It's just another cycle of hate, preached now by those who proclaim they are tolerate.

Ironically, I tell people I am married to a Christian and they tell me their sorry. I'm not.
