A lack of imagination?
Actually, I have seen them portrayed as doctors, lawyers, and many other professions.

For the same reason blacks are always portrayed as dope dealers, murderers, thieves and prostitutes. RACISM, in other words.
You find racism in the oddest places, including the staff of Yahoo Answers. I answered a query that wanted to know if Latinos were trying to take over America with "Yes, of course!" to show the questioner how ugly his query is. Y! Answers deleted my reply. Tell me Y!Answers is not racist!

because during the middle ages they were not allowed to detain land so they focused on a thew jobs that didn't depend
on it and that Christians didn't often do like jewelers, bankers doctors etc

There was a period in time in Europe when Jews were not allowed to own land or practice certain professions. So they entered the professions they were allowed to practice. These included banking and jewelry.

The same reason the Irish are always potrayed as cops. There were an inordinate amount of people of that backgound in that profession not that long ago.
