When I select a range of cells in Excel 2007 they are surrounded by a border, but not highlighted. As I tab through them, I can't tell which is the active cell. Help - this is driving me crazy!!

It sounds like the Selected Items color in your Windows Display Properties might have been changed to white. Try right clicking on the Desktop, and go to Properties. In Windows XP, go to the Appearance tab and hit the Advanced button, then update the color for Selected Items.

If this doesn't work, you might just try restarting your computer.

If the cells are colored by Conditional Formatting, and the Conditional Formatting exchange into carried out by using formulae then you somewhat are in a position to apply those formulae on your calculations as a exchange of attempting to apply the colour that those formulae produced interior the Conditional Formatting. If the cells have been manually crammed with colour then i do no longer think of there's a manner different than using VBA to % out what cells are colored what colour and then to apply their values on your calculation. A VBA professional are in a position that could be useful you with this.

Look in the top task bar and on the LHS you will see s'thing like " G4 " this is the cell you are currently on- the active cell, it will change as you tab to another cell (to become s'thing like G5 etc)
