a "Christian Nation" and were founded by Christians on Christian principles, what would change? How would it affect you?
On the flip side, how would it affect you if you are not a Christian?

I should have been more clear. I apologize. This is merely a hypothetical. I understand we will never agree on the issue of whether or not this is a "Christian Nation". I simply want thoughts on what would happen if we did agree. I am more or less wondering why people argue over this subject. Who has what to gain from a concensus?

I am not a Christian, but I am open to their thoughts and ideas. I am an atheist. I do not, nor do I think I implied, think this is a "Christian Nation". I am not looking to argue that. I've done the research and my mind is sufficiently made up. Please read and understand the question before replying.

Again, I AM NOT ASKING WHETHER OR NOT THIS IS A "CHRISTIAN NATION"! I'm simply asking, hypothetically speaking, who would be affected if it was decided so and how it would affect you. You could also respond as to how it would affect you if it was unanimously decided and legally declared that we are officially not. Again, THIS IS A HYPOTHETICAL, use your imagination a little. Thank you.

We are not a christian nation. we do not share all the same values. many of our founders were not christian. How does this affect me 1) you want to legislate values that are not mine, and that infringe on a persons rights or are bad for the country. 2) you want to dumb down our chidren by teaching them biblical stories instead of sceince. 3) You want the courts aginst me because I break 3 of the 10 commandments just by being an atheist.I could go on but you have most likley Quit reading because you disagree.

I beg to differ with you. This country was not founded by Christians, it was founded by Deists. If the founding fathers had been Christians, there probably would have never been a revolution, because the Bible strictly prohibits revolt. http://www.deism.com/DeistAmerica.htm

I would answer the rest of your question, except that it is obviously a mute point, so I guess I'll refrain.

Edit:
Alright, I'm getting what you're saying. Well, if the U.S. became a "Christian Nation" and had the ability to force Christian principles on everyone, then my family would definitely be screwed. We'd have to go underground (or get the heck out of here!), because, to put it mildly, the Bible isn't real concerned with the welfare of people who practice witchcraft.

I think World War III would start

Oh wait, Pastor Bush, I mean President Bush has already started it.

The majority of the U.S. is Christian, however we shouldn't declare that we're a Christian nation and have our government set up accordingly. The only time that idea will work out is when Christ himself comes again to rule and reign as King, and peace will finally be on earth.

On the other side, people think that America is a Christian nation but in reality it is not at all. When you take the words of JESUS CHRIST when HE said that those who love me would keep my commandments, I don't see but a few people in America that Love JESUS. JESUS also said that many would go the way of destruction, but few would find every lasting life (Matt. 7:13), if few will find every lasting life in JESUS CHRIST then how is it over 85% of the nation claims to be Christian. So to answer your question, we do not live in a Christian nation, but we were founded on Christian principles, and satan has blinded almost all Americans into thinking they are CHRIST LIKE (Christian). So it does not affect me as a child of GOD at all because I am one of only a few that are Christian (CHRIST LIKE) anyway.

How do you think it would affect me, not being a christian? Luckily, this is NOT a christian nation founded on christian principles. In fact the founding fathers worked very hard to make sure that there was a separation of church and state. If this turned into a christian nation I would be very worried. I would not be a christian. I don't care if everybody else was, to thy own self be true. I would have to move, maybe to Switzerland. Because you can bet I would be discriminated against. I would go to Switzerland under religious protection.

The American forefathers wrote the Constitution on free will and independence. The very reason we strayed from Britain was to believe what we wanted and practice what we wanted, including religion. Bill of Rights, the first Amendment:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

In correspondence to another user, the freedom OF religion, as it was stressed, includes a lack thereof.

You realize the country was started by men and women escaping religious persecution and most were actually Athiests, Deists and Episcopalian. Just thought you would like to know that before you look foolish to all your Christian friends.

And the country was formed on Christian views of morality, nothing to do with the actual faith. So if you could stand to hear it this way. We are a moral country built on morality. Which of course is a lie in itself, our representation to the world is the antithesis to morality.

If America became a theocrisy, I'd have all the reason I ever needed to abandon ship. America would self-destruct faster than you can say "holy war." Problem is--and Bush Daddy shows this--they'd take a good chunk of the rest of the world with them.

I am begining to question this. God seems to be forgotten.
Everything seems to be Jesus. I don't accept the Jesus that walked on this earth as the God who is the father that Jesus prayed and talked to. Three in one is one thing but I think of the commandment that says thou shall have no other God before me.(but me) I am sad that organized religion is all about Jesus. I don't know the percentage of the population concerning christianity but I think if all were honest I'd say many don't believe.

For those of us who are not Christian, declaring the US a Christian nation would be defying the Constitution of our country and endangering our civil rights. Personally, I would find it very frightening.
