This isn't about the book of revelation, but about God telling His prophets things. Does it take time like humans to humans speaking or is it like *bam* and God has given you the information like a bolt of lightning?

God or Christ give revelations in different ways. It can come as a small feeling or voice through the Holy Ghost. Or it can be a direct face-to-face interaction like prophets have experienced.

The way in which the revelation is delivered, is entirely up to God. It could be a vision or during prayer. It could be quick or slow - over a period of time. God decides. You are merely the recipient.

Many times when I pray, God simply makes the answer clear through the illumination of the Spirit, and other times by bringing to mind a scripture that applies.
Then there are those times that He takes a long time. Sometimes, a "life-lesson" is needed to bring me to an understanding of something "the hard way" by experiencing it, or through loss. Other times, it's through an intense study of the Bible.
Prov 25:2 says: "It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter."
God is most pleased with us when we study his Word to discover things for ourselves. But it always starts with praying for understanding.
Once I asked God for understanding in the book of Revelation. Be careful what you ask for.

God uses many ways to speak to His servants !!! They just have to have the opened ears of their heart ready to grasp His messsage !!! Some heads are thicker than others !!! And it can be a long or short distance between the head and heart !!!

but it IS about the book of revelation. we know when, where and by whom it was written.
the only issue is whether John the Divine was ingesting mushrooms at the time
