Everyday we should pray for vocations. We need preists today because we need the Eucharist and we need the Church. A religious life is a calling from God. A preist is a great blessing. I cannot tell you how much I love priests, the religious and the Pope. God willing I hope to become a permanent deacon in a few years.

Some do some don't. Some Catholic youth are too much involved in todays culture to care, which is unfortunate, others see the need.
Myself am considering the priesthood, and I am a "Catholic youth". I find the gift of celibacy to be a wonderful sacrifice, though its hard.
To the user who said there's big business in the Church, you are exactly the type of person who needs NOT to be in a pastoral position. Being a priest isn't about 'working' on Sundays, its not a job because its a way of life. You are on call 24/7. Its hard, its very hard, and you don't get paid well. Taking money from parishioners is a crime too.
And to the users who claim all priests are molesters: Thats not true at all. Yes, those crimes were despicable, but don't label all the good men who are priests as pedophiles. If you do that, then ALL teachers, and ALL parents, and ALL neighbors, and just about everybody MUST be a child molester! More people are abused in Protestantism, in schools, and in homes than they are in the Catholic Church.
Edit: In some countries seminaries are overflowing (see Poland)

There is great value in becoming a clergyman; a sheppard for a flock; spiritual father to spiritual children; a servant of God for servants of God.
Don't kid yourself. . . Even in spite of the clergy sex scandal, the moral values of the Church seldom match the moral values of secular society. If the priesthood of the Church is looked down upon more, it is because secular society has become more mislead.
While it is true that some priests have become corrupted by values not espouses by the Church, the actions of corrupted clergy only serve discredit themselves individually, not the Church as a whole.

There is so popular to be a Dominican religious in Poland. Ordo Praedicatorum is the only way for young, well-educated and not traditionalists catholics to be a priest. Diocesans seminaries are often dominated by ultra-conservative (politically and ecclesiastically) and anti-reform youth, especially beyond Warsaw.

Yes, they are starting to come around again and they are being called. For a while I don't think as many were being called with some problems with some of the theology that some of the rogue Bishops were considering if you know what I mean but, now things are turning around and there has really been an upsurge in vocations all over.

I would love to become a priest and start my own church. There is big money in the church business and I would only have to do a 1 hour service on Wednesday and Sunday. I mean 2 hours of work a week aint bad for all the money I could rake in.
I would just advertise get out of hell cards for 20.00 and watch the crowds flock in.

Some do. But then again there are a lot of kids who say they want to be a fireman or an astronaut when they grow up too, which rarely happens either.

what is the value exactly?
free passes at molesting kids?
cause thats what im seeing. everywhere i turn is some preist molesting kids.
and as far as religion, its nothing better than a good waste of time. instead of being out in the world helping people u go to your little sunday services and talk about it. i side with the people who do, not with the people who talk. (ironically i know more non-christians that help the community..)

Some still do....but not nearly as many as years ago.
One thing is because celibacy and poverty are viewed differently than it was years ago.
