A Chicago Style Hot Dog is more than just a Hot Dog; it's a taste sensation with the perfect blend of toppings. So, what exactly is a Chicago Dog? A Chicago Style Hot Dog is a steamed all beef Hot Dog topped with yellow mustard, bright green relish, onions, tomato wedges, pickle spear or slice, sport peppers and a dash of celery salt served in the all-important steamed poppyseed bun.
The toppings are just as important as the order they are applied to the Hot Dog. Add toppings in the following order:
Yellow Mustard
Bright Green Relish
Fresh Chopped Onions
Two Tomato Wedges
A Pickle Spear or Slice
Two Sport Peppers
A Dash of Celery Salt

A Chicago style dog begins with an all-beef hot dog. Typically the kosher dogs, with its inherent spiciness, are the best base. There's also a preference as to how the dog is prepared, either by placing it in boiling water or steaming. Almost never grilled or pan fried.
Placed in a hot dog bun, plain or poppyseed, side cut. Toppings include mustard, sliced tomatoes, chopped onions, neon green dill relish, celery salt, sport peppers, dill pickle spear. Ketchup is a no-no.
There ya go.

im a long time chicagoian. southside! White sox fan and this is what goes on a chicago style hot dog mustard, onions, relish, tomatoes(diced not slices) and a pickle and those peppers that look like a banana not banana peppers those are sweet these are spicy. if u go to A & W and ask for a chicago style hot dog they will have it on there. they also put cucumber but i dont agree with the whole cucumber on a hotdog thats weird. but whatever. if anyone puts ketchup on a chicago style hot dog they should be shunned out of the state of illinois in my opinion.

First it is the dog itself. It must be a "Vienna" beef hot dog. Then comes all the add ons. That would include, celery salt, peppers, neon green relish, mustard (never ever ketchup), tomato, poppy seed bun. I'm probably missing an ingredient. I just moved from Chicago a month ago. Miss the deep dish pizza more than anything else.
