depends on which level truck and if 4x4...

a 4x4 can easily go to a 305/70r16 and it will still look good without any type of a lift but it will somewhat kill your power. that's what I run on my '02 2500 4x4 cummins. I run 285/70r16 on my '05 2500 4x4 cummins and 265/70r16 on my '98 2x4 lil hotrod cummins.

a 70 series should fit fine, adjust the first number according to what height tire you are looking for. I would not go wider than the 70 series on a stock rim as it will pull the beads in causing excessing wear in the middle of the tire...

A 265/70/17 should fit without any problems. I will never know why Dodge decided to put those little 245/70/17's on any truck!

If you have the stock 16 x 7 wheels, my tire book says 245 is the widest tire recommended.

If a 4x4 305 fit great on stock rims 11.5 wide. If not a 4x4 it might get tight.
