there are a few other factors that goes into it, such as what caliber or gun is bring used and what is the angle of entry, for example, if you are using a Small caliber such as a .22 there is a chance that you would not die as result of the injury. That bullet is not moving very fast and is small, it would rattle around inside your head and not do much damage, now compare that to a 12 gauge shotgun and you can see what I am talking about.
Either way shooting yourself in the head is not a very good idea and if not done correctly can cause a lifetime of pain and suffering. Lots of times people try that and they end up not killing themselves but they do end up as a vegetable, requiring someone to take of them for the rest of their life.

I really hope your last statement is true, and if not, please seek help, b/c murder is wrong, and suicide is selfish!! Anyhow, even if it does hurt, I doubt the person feels it, b/c they will die instatly. And also, it is definitely possible to shoot yourself or be shot in the head and still live. I am an avid fan f forensics shows (the real deal like on court TV, not that CSI crap!) and I have seen many cases where a person attempted suicide and did nto succeed. I don't know exactly what happens in there, but I guess they just miss by milli inches the part of their brain (or their brain period) that would have killed them. And again, PLEASE DON"T KILL YOURSELF OR ANYONE ELSE!!!!!!!

Well my nephew accidently shot himself in the head and died. He was 21- very horrible to get over. I have taken care of people who have tried to committ suicide and it did not work and they were left paralyzed . I think it has to be the size of the bullet. There was another guy who shot himsself in a parking lot with a short shot gun/rifle. It seems to be mostly males who shoot themselves purposely.

many people have shot themselves in the head, and lived!! The only way to do it and be totally effective is to put the muzzle of the gun in your mouth, aimed back and up so it blows the top of your head off along with what few brains you have. Death is instantaneous and very permanent. You see it all working in an inner city ER.

Not too long ago, some guy shot himself in the temple, but the bullet did its damage to his eyes, destroying both of them.
Now, he's totally blind in addition to whatever problems drove him to attempt suicide.
As for the pain, I'm not sure there are many people around who can comment on that.

If you're not going to kill yourself or anyone else, WHY do you want to know this?...
And no, I don't know the answer. I've never been shot in the head.
