You can only cut yourself if you don't rub all the skin you're gonna shave with shaving gel or soap or something alike. If you only have water on the skin there's a high probability you'll get a little scratch. Haven't heard of nair. Veet? Um.... I used it and had to shave my legs afterwards since it didn't actually work. Waxing - you should ask a friend who already did it to show you or was you, if you don't know what you're doing and never did it before it won't be too good for you :P

Why don't you try shaving first? Use shaving cream and a disposable double Bic razor. If you have never seen anyone shave before, have your mom show you so you don't get cut. Have her show you how to clean out the razor and give suggestions in case you cut yourself. A little nick here or there will heal before you're even done shaving.
You may also want to try using an electric razor. The shave will be pretty good, and you really can cut yourself with an electric razor. Ask your mom what kind of razor to use.
Waxing will probably hurt you, and it will most likely irritate your skin. Nair will as well. I've heard bad things about Veet, so I wouldn't even try it. If you don't want to use Nair, then don't. Talk to your mom.

Go with Veet. I am 25 and shaved my legs up until a couple of years ago. Veet is just like Nair. I never used Nair but I would imagine it would be the same thing. I prefer it because you don't have to worry about cutting yourself. You spend all that time shaving just to walk away with a bandaid on your leg. All you do is put the creme on you leg from the knee down let it sit 3-6 min and then wipe it off! That is it. Simple clean and it leaves your legs really soft and smooth and lasts whole lot longer than shaving does!!

Nair is great for the legs....Veet is basically the same thing, only you remove the hair/cream with a bladeless razor wannabee rather than a washcloth. There is nothing wrong with shaving, but the benefit of Nair is that you don't have to do it as often, since it desolves the hair at the root rather than cutting it off at the surface. As for the underarms.... I find Nair to be irritating to the sensitive skin there, and prefer shaving. If you do go with shaving....the newer triple blade razors are great!!!! They leave your skin incredibly smooth, and cause less irritation.
As for your mom.... it is ultimately your decision. Tell her why you feel the way you do, and maybe compromise by agreeing to trying her idea...if she also lets you try yours.

well i tried nair , and it sucks!!! first of all, the hair didn't go away!! i just got an ugly red, itchy rash!!
veet is pretty much the same as nair, but it's the same crap
waxing is ok., but it takes longer and if u wax ur underarms for example , it hurts, and sometimes it burns, which sucks
shaving is realy the best, and fastest thing to do, and your legs feel nice and smooth afterwards!!
it's really nice
use shavingcream, then it's even smoother!!
use venus virbrance, i never got a single cut with it
hope this helps

Since you are a beginner, I would suggest shaving. Try using a Venus razor. They are very safe (I've yet to cut myself with one) and easy to use. You don't have to worry about cuts as long as you are careful and take your time shaving. Pay special attention to spots like your ankles, knees, and underarms. Also, make sure to always use a shaving cream/gel (Skintimate is a good brand), and pick the the type and flavor you want.
Nair and Veet are great, and they do work, but they are chemicals and since you're just starting out, I would just stick to shaving for now...you have the potential to burn yourself / stain your clothes with these. I don't want to scare you away from them, but just get comfortable with shaving first. ; )
At home waxing?? DON'T DO IT. Just don't. As far as telling your Mom, just tell her!!! She will understand...she was your age once, remember that. She's there to help you. Good luck sweetie!!!!

Shaving is the easiest method for hair removal. I recommend the Schick Quattro & Aveeno shave gel for sensitive skin. Here's how to shave your legs for the best results: http://www.ehow.com/how_1438_shave-legs.html
There's a new formula of Nair for sensitive skin. You might want to try it. Depilatories dissolve the hair a bit under the skin & the effects last a little longer.
DIY waxing is tricky. It takes a while to get the right grip & pulling technique. Here are some articles: http://www.ehow.com/how_13745_understand-waxing.html

Link to article about all hair removal methods: http://www.cosmeticscop.com/learn/hair.asp?ID=166
Read this so you have all the facts & can talk to your mom about what you think will work best for you.
NOTE: Shaving does not make your hair grow back thicker. This is a myth.

waxing is horrible, trust me, and when you shave of course the hair will grow back, but it leaves little stubbles behind, it doesnt get all the hair, i've never used nair but veet is what i use now and its fabulous! i started using it like a month ago and i havent had to use it again yet, so i recommend veet

nair smells horrible. like really gag horrible.
waxing hurts, having someone else do it (like at a salon) is preferable to sitting there trying to work yourself up to ripping it off.
shaving really is the easiest, get a big pack of the disposable blue bic razors (they're really sharp) some shave gel and a good moisturizer for afterwards. If you go slow you wont cut yourself.

I say better to shave 2 to 3 times a week. I don't like using neet or Nair. Have tried both in the past and they irritate my skin plus don't remove all the hair. It's stinky and messy. Waxing hurts and is also messy. Your welcome have a nice day.
