Our congress and senate members could not agree on a new bill introduced to give amnesty to 12 to 20 million illegals and change our current laws controlling immigration. That bill is a dead issue and it is being said the argument will not be taken up again for some time as we place more emphasis on who is going to become the next president. Do we really want to just forget the need to reform our immigration laws and ignore the problems with illegal aliens? Shouldn't we be pushing our Senators and Congressmen to continue working this issue? We need LEGAL aliens and legal immigrants in the United States and we should do everything we can to develop a safe, sane and satisfactory program allowing an adequate workforce to come to the United States; to be welcomed, to work legally, be treated with dignity and respect, and at the same time make maximum effort to stop illegal aliens at the border and prosecute employers who hire them!

As important as it is to get a new president in place ignoring the illegal alien issue can not be ignored. The United States needs a president who can restore dignity to the office of the President and respect for our country. We need to concentrate on getting the best possible person into that office; forget what party the candidate represents, elect the best possible person. Once in office the president is there for all U.S. citizens; unfortunately some have lost this concept. But, regardless of the battle for the White House, regardless of who is elected, if we do not get the immigration problems fixed it will not make any difference. The United States is quickly becoming a lawless country and allowing illegals to move into the U.S. unchecked and uncontrolled is a major part of that problem! We can not afford to ignore this issue or postpone it while we battle for the White House! I am surprised none of the candidates are pursuing this in their campaigns.

Not dead but in hibernation until after the 2008 elections. No one will touch this topic until 2009-it is too controversial.

Far from it. The politicians won't admit it, but that is the only realistic answer. We are loosing countless tax dollars due the American public's ignorance.

Fine 'em, but give them amnesty & a quick path to legalization as well.
