I am 20 years old and I just got my first eye exam ever. Here is my prescription:
OD: Sphere: -0.25 Cylinder: -0.75 Axis: 153
OS: Sphere: -0.75 Cylinder: -0.50 Axis: 068
I'm not sure if this prescription is bad enough for me to get glasses. On the paper, the doctor recommended full time wear, or distance only so I'm not really sure what to do.

You have an Rx similar to mine and I wear my specs only to drive at night. It is a mild prescription, but you may find that they really help, especially at night when driving or when you feel things might be a little fuzzy. Its a mild enough prescription that you could wear them all the time and they won't hinder your up close vision.

You won't become dependent on them (Lori above me is right) I am not dependent on mine, but i do feel MUCH safer when I wear them while driving at night (and so does my husband when he's in the car with me!)

I would get an inexpensive, but stylish, pair and try them out and see how they work for you. My rule of thumb is if you can see better with them on, then by all means wear them.

This is kind of a boarderline thing. Your Rx is mild. My daughters is similar. I would say that you could wear them full time, or as needed. Your brain and personality does kind of tell you. Some people with less of an rx swear that they can not see without their glasses becuase their brain likes seeing 20/20! Some people only use that kind of Rx for driving, movies, ballgames, only to see Distance. So, I would fill the prescription and use it and then see what your reaction is to it. Your eyes do nto get worse by using it, nor do you become "dependant" on glasses. Your brain might decide it likes seeing. Or, you might find that the glasses are an annoyance in the house, and only wear them out of the house, like my mom does. You should get them becuase the Doctor did not tell you that it was so small it is optional, the Doctor told you that they are for Distance and wrote the RX. Does that make sense? I think it would make a world of difference to you!O^O

Yes, it is definitely worth getting glasses!! Your prescription is not very strong, but you do have an astigmatism in both eyes, meaning, you see things a little blurry beucase your eyes are shaped differently. My prescription is very similar, and I was wearing them just for distance (driving tv, computer), but have recently started wearing them full-time and it makes such a difference!! I am only a few years older than you, and I know that glasses odn't seem attractive or fun, but they're not so bad!! Give it a try!!

Sounds like the doctor recommend you get and wear your glasses full time. I'm not going to contradict him...

Since he said "full-time wear, or distance only", it sounds like he's leaving it up to you. If you feel you need them, wear them. If not, don't bother. Your Rx is extremely mild. Mine is -6.50 in one eye, and -6.75 in the other. My optician gave me some free sample lenses to try, but didn't have my actual Rx in stock, so they gave me two 6.25's. I can see just fine.
