My little boy. "Peppy" (chihuahua) follows me into the bathroom.( I don't mind if I'm showering or taking a bath) but he has this odd habit of watching me pee. He doesn't do anything, he just stares at me.
Has my pup lost his mind?
Does anyone else's dog do this?

LOL! He likes to perch in front of me like the Sphinx, almost as if he "standing guard"

OMG! I am so glad I am not the only one that their dog(s) do this too. All 4 of mine do this and my husband laughs and says "family meeting" everytime I go into the bathroom now. My Chi wants to sit on my lap. I think it is just their way of wanting to know what we are doing all the time or it could be bcause we go out with them and watch them(payback). Either way I find it odd and amusing.

If your dog is attached to you - and your's clearly is - he may follow you to and into the bathroom.
However, you can train him not to do this. You can set up an "off-limits" hand signal or command (like "out") such that if you don't want him in a room, he won't be there. This is based on obedience training and is a command taught after your dog has the basics.
However, if you're not bothered by this, then just be happy your dog wants to be near you. It suggests that you are the "alpha" in the household, which is a good sign.

Yesss. It's annoying. We live on a large acreage and sometimes are at the other end and far from a bathroom, so we let the kids go in the trees to pee. The dogs always have to go and "supervise" with great intensity.
They probably wonder why we're "marking" that particular spot. Your dog most likely thinks you've lost yours for peeing in a pot! lol Just think what must go through his tiny doggy mind! lol

No, your dog hasn't lost his mind. My dogs will try to follow me into the bathroom but I have 3 100 pound plus (each dog) German Shepherds. My one dog will lie on the rug while I'm in the shower and they will try to get me to play with them while I'm going potty but I've had to either (1) tell them to stay out and shut the door all the way or (2) tell them leave and lay down while I'm busy. Dogs are sociable animals and your pup is just doing several things - trying to be close to you and maybe just curious about your behavior - wondering what you are doing and why! More than likely, your dog just wants to be in the same room you are in and wants to be close to you. Don't freak too much.

Nope, dogs are very interested in the bathroom habits of people.. If they don't sit there and watch, they'll sit at the doorway or even make several passes down the hall and past the door just so that they can peek in to see what you are doing. Don't worry they can't talk, they won't be gossiping about you.

Oh Lord!! Haha!! Your dog is PERFECTLY normal!!! Clients come in asking the same thing all the time! I always joke that their dogs think there is a secret exit door in the bathroom and your dogs are nervous you will leave them out!! At my house, it is a mad dash to the bathroom if my dogs see me start to head that way!!! They literally barrel down the hall :)
At one point I was fostering 4 dogs on top of my two (ALL Saint Bernards and Newfoundlands!!) and they would all try to squish their way into the bathroom with me!
Talk about stage fright! Haha
Enjoy your day!!

BEWARE! I had a dog who used to do this and the next thing I knew, although she was housetrained, when I would go, she would go, right there in the hallway. Then when I started closing the door she would still go in the hallway. I had to put her in her room every time I went to the bathroom. So with my current dog, I just close the door and let it remain a mystery to him what I do behind closed doors.
LOL Sometimes our dogs are too smart for their own good.

I have 2 adult miniature pinschers. They both follow me everywhere they can, even in the bathroom. They come in and lay down, til I leave the bathroom. Nothing is wrong with this. He just wants to be close to you. Be thankful that he isn't one of those crazy dogs that bark at the toilet and go crazy when you flush. I would praise him for his good behavior and not worry about it.

My parents' dogs follow anyone in the house to the bathroom. More than one visitor has been surprised by them. It could be worse... one of my cats follows me to the bathroom every time and jumps in my lap.

awww..I also have a Chihuahua too.Her name is Lucy. I have had her for a couple of months (she is now 6 months) and still follows me to the bathroom. She always wines if I don't let her in.To answer your questions...No your puppy has not lost his mind..just probably wondering what the heck you're doing..and wants to be near you.If you kinda think about it's kinda sweet. My baby girl does it all the time.I wouldn't worry about it to much.If it makes you uncomfortable try taking toy in there and letting him play with that.
