I have a recurring headache in the exact same spot every one to two weeks. They are extremely painful and last only a few seconds. Any ideas as to what the cause is or even where to start looking to figure out what is going on? I have an appointment with my doctor in a few days, but i would like to read up a bit online about it first.

If it is very specific and only in one specific area and only lasting a short time there are three big possiblities without knowing any more about your condition. It depends on the quality of headache too, if it pulsates at all, it's probably a problem in your blood vessels, this type of headache may not pulsate though as well. Another big possibliity is a space occupying mass (tumor, blocked cerebro-spinal fluid, clot, etc.), finally if you notice that you turn your head a certain way it could be coming from your neck due to a muscle, or vertebrae being slightly out of place. Since your doctor will be able to evaluate you and get some more information they will have a much better idea, but with the limited info, those would be your 3 best bets to look into. Though it coulld be something completely different as well, something even as simple as dehydration or low blood sugar. Your doctor may order some x-rays or other diagnostic work, but unfortunately there is the slight possibility that it won't show anything if your problem isn't flaring up, so a negative result from xrays or an mri might not mean that your condition is gone. (Sometimes doctors don't explain things like that). Also when searching look up idiopathic headaches...it's doctor-speak for "a problem with an unknown source" Good luck with your headaches and search

caffiene! in small doses it helps. it is one ingredient in ecedrine for migranes. 1 or 2 cups of coffee will do it, and overdoing this can cause headaches. headaches are commonly caused by vasodilation of the blood vessles in the brain and caffiene counteracts this by causing vasoconstriction of the vessles. keep a journal for a week or so and write down what your were doing and all circumstances surrounding the time of onset of the headache. try to identify a pattern of what triggers could cause the headache. I think thier are other prescription pain meds that are not narcs, like beta-blockers, a common BP med that could help that you can ask your dr. too.

There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation;
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Avoid late sleeping if possible;spicy, sour, stale bakery foods and alcohole.
Sweet foods, sweet fruits, milk, rice and good sleep will help you.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it isvery strong.
If it is acute pl search a painful point 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.

I would say you are dehydrated, because i get those kind of headaches too. Do you get really dizzy, for a little while with the pain? It also may be dry sinuses, because they are really painful. if you sniff up some hot water, it should help tremendously
